I've always been amazed at anybody who says they use one type of string on everything. Both my 1537 and my Dan Savage Legend always seemed to demand a string that would "tame" their brightness. I've used Elixir phos/bronze on them and they have been ok. Those strings sound great on my 87C. Just as a lark, I tried Elixir's brightest string, their 80/20 nano coated mediums. Per their website, these are as bright as they get. Yet on both guitars, while they sound somewhat bright, they have a terrific tone making both guitars sound wonderful. Go figure. Just wanted to share the experience......

Did a quick forum search for any posts about "strings" written by our favorite PI (who I do love like a brother) http://www.ovationfanclub.com/megabbs/search/query.asp?fid=0&action...

Buy in bulk because I'm frugal and most of my guitars spend a serious amount of time just hanging around. For any special events a nice set of uncoated PBs go on and will last about a week. Thanks for the link Dave! It's a lot like a time machine! Edited by MWoody 2020-02-28 10:41 AM

I find my deep bowl legend sits best with a 2-1/2 inch leather tooled strap. But I tried the same on my folklore deluxe and was not impressed. I think the cedar to of the folklore has a bit different weight and to offset that correctly I need the straps with the suede type backing. Probably in a deeper color as well.

Tried John Pearse and Adamas on the Legend and while I liked them I came back to the EXPs for longer life. On My Guild Orpheums I tried the d'Addario NB strings and they are awesome and last for months. So I put a set on my 1687, and was quite underwhelmed. They are just ok, and didn't last much longer than the EXPs. Actually, I am curious if others also find that on a 1687 the wound strings lose their crispness much, much faster than on wood-topped guitars? Edited by d'ovation 2020-02-28 5:29 PM

To follow up on what I said before, I assume we were talking all about bronze strings. Nickel and brass will sound quite different. I haven’t found much difference between the EJs, GHS Markley or some of the others. The tensions may vary some, so you feel it and maybe you hear something slight. But all that is like cigarettes or beer, you choose what you like. Edited by Beal 2020-02-29 8:31 AM
