Hi there,

I'm trying out a used Celebrity Deluxe Elite (in Cherry Sunburst) and I"m wondering if I"m getting a decent deal on it? I"m having a hard time locating a retail value on it, or even a used price. The guitar is practically blemish free but for a few very small nicks on the edge.
Fortunately, she lives very close and has kindly let me bring it home to noodle around on for the day.
She will sell to me for $450 (Canadian) and this includes the moulded case, and throwing in a humidifier and strap).

I don't want to haggle her on the price but nor do I want to have big buyers' remorse.

Any comments surely appreciated. It's the CSE44 serial 7019243

For comparison, I paid $250 for mine in 2017, without a case.
BUT! CSE44 are really good guitars, for what they are.
Made in Korea Celebrity guitars. But they have a Solid Top.
But only you can decide the value of your future guitar.

Here is mine.

To find price comparisons I go to ebay and look up the model number then click on completed listings to see what others have sold for,450CAD is about 340USD so not overly priced of course the question is "How do you like the guitar".I think thats a mid-depth which should sound decent acoustically I personally love the deep bowls...try it for a day if it plucks your heart strings keep it.

Thank you both for chiming in....

I went for it t and am happy with my choice. Figure I can always unload it down the road. Perhaps I could have gotten it for a little less but the seller is a young widow from my community ... and I almost always haggle but this time I just didn't even want to. It's a handsome guitar...I might have to give it a pet name!

I have a 12-string Ovation 1615 & am deeply attached to it. The bluegrass purists around me don't like it so muck so I can't wait to see what they think of this one :D

Jewels.. in your other post you said you couldn't figure out how to post a photo.. but that was in the Welcome Center forum and I'm not sure if you can post photos there.
Anyway.. just under the bottom-right of the reply section in this thread, click on "Advanced Reply". That will take you to a new page with space to make your reply post. At the bottom of the area where you type your text there is a box you can check "Attach photo or file after posting". Check that box, then click "submit". That will in turn take you to another new page where you have an option that lets you browse your files for the one you wish to post. Chose the photo file you want to post, then click "submit", and your photo will appear with your text.

In other words.. congratulations on your new purchase.. and we'd love to see a picture of it!!

Sounds like you will enjoy the guitar and you also didn't haggle for all the right reasons. Something to be said for that!! And thanks Alan for the concise directions on posting pics. Never posted one but now perhaps I will if I need to.

Ah yes.. a pretty little specimen indeed. Very nice. You said Cherryburst.. but looking at the photo I would say Honeyburst.. though I'm not sure how they named the Celebrity colors. In any event.. glad to know you are satisfied with your new guitar. Congratulations! And also glad you were able to post the picture.

Speaking of which.. Dave.. if you hear a knocking on your door, it's probably the cops.. since it's illegal in all 50 states to post a picture of Glen Campbell playing anything but an Ovation or Adamas. Didn't you know that? Oh well, let me know if you need me to post bail.

I think this was maybe from his pre Ovation days (yes there were some) though I am not sure. Thanks for the offer. I think maybe you should just make a citizen's arrest on me!!

Maybe so .... I'd read on one of the links re ovation colour codes and, although CS stands for Cherry Sunburst I think the CS is supposed to follow the model number. It's Bursty either way :D

Just came across this

Yep.. a nice burst either way. Again, I can only assume that since all Celebrity models start with a "C", that it stands for.. well.. Celebrity. And yes, the color code (dash+number/letters) for Ovations/Adamas comes after the model number, so I again assume the same applies to Celebrity models. If so, I don't know what the SE on yours might mean. Maybe "special edition" or something. Arthur is the house expert on all that stuff, so maybe he will chime with the facts.

PS: Looking at the colors in the link you posted, I also see a "Teardrop Burst" that looks a lot like yours as well.

That "CS" has nothing to do with colors.
Celebrity numbers were "CC" for China, "CS" for Korea. But that does not always apply.
Classier Celebrity guitars were the CSE (which this is) with Solid Wood tops and the Original Patented Pickup.
Custom Ovation usually have Handwritten info on the Label.
