Location: Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire | If your 12 string sits without being played, like any acoustic or even electric, it should be de-tuned so the neck or bridge area doesn't start to drift or lift. I agree with a comment that if tuning to concert pitch light strings or those that it came with originally is best. I have a Collectors 1986 shallow bowl and liked the sound of Martin Bronze strings (10-54)I used on my other acoustics but the heavier E string was a concern. The original strings were 10-53 it came with so I switched back to a D'Addario and actually it sounds as good or better, a bit more mid-range. An off topic comment is regarding an article I read not long ago that changing the strings to a different type, brand or gauge (not heavier if the guitar is not made for it) sometimes provides a different sound you might like. |

Location: Troutdale oregon | Thanks for the reply. I try and play my guitars regularly and seems to be doing fine so far in standard pitch and 10/47 strings. Although I think it could use a bit of a set up. Action seems a little high but sounds great and stays in tune. |

| I have a 1615 that I routinely keep tuned to DADGAD. That said, after this last string change it's been in standard tuning. |
