Joined: February 2018 Posts: 64 Location: Oklahoma City | I just picked one of these up over the weekend and am trying to learn a little more about them as there is very limited information on the net about them other than a couple Japanese sites. So far I've read they were requested by Ovation Japan and only 30-40 copies were built for the 35th anniversary of Simon and Garfunkel's 1981 concert in Central Park. Anything else? So far I've read they were requested by Ovation Japan and only 30-40 copies were built for the 35th anniversary of Simon and Garfunkel's 1981 concert in Central Park. Anything else? Whoa... that's a rare piece there. Nakao, the distributor, closed their musical instrument division in 2009 and there is very little information available about these guitars. As you said, it was built to commemorate Simon and Garfunkel's Concert in Central Park (Sept. 1981). During the concert Paul Simon apparently used an '81 1619-5 and 1627-4 Glen Campbell model. This website (you've probably seen this) says Nakao commissioned the Mother Ship to build 30 exact copies of the 1619-5 that Paul Simon used and marketed them in 2006 to commemorate Ovations 40th Anniversary. The specs are as follows; Specs: Top: AAA hand selected Solid Sitka Spruce Finish: Vintage Gloss Black Rosetta: Original Style Custom Legend Abalone Rosetta Bracing: A Bracing Pattern Bowel-Depth: Deep Non-Cutaway Bowel Finish: Black Body Binding: Ivoroid Body Purfling: Hand-Inlaid Abalone Neck: 5-Piece Mahogany/Maple Laminated with Dovetail Joint Neck Reinforcement: Dual Acting Rod with Headstock End adjustment Neck Finish: Gloss Black Neck Width: 1 11/16" Nut Material: Bone Peghead Face: Gloss Black with Mother-of-Pearl Logo Truss-Rod Cover: Carved Black Machine Key: Schaller Gold with Pearl Buttons Fingerboard: Ebony with Abalone Diamond/Square/Dot Inlay Pattern Fingerboard Binding: Grained Ivory Bridge: Original Style Carved Walnut Black Finished Preamplifier: Original Style Stereo FET Pickup: FET w/ OCP-1 and Stereo output Case: Original Hard Shell Brown / Rust Color Interior Custom Legend through and through. The N619-5s come up very rarely in Japan; and when they do, they command the respect of the buyers' wallet (owing to Paul Simon's popularity here). How much did you pay for it (if I may)? Either way, that's a great grab! Congratulations!

Joined: February 2018 Posts: 64 Location: Oklahoma City | I paid more than $1000 but less than $2000. I simply found it on the Facebook Marketplace. I don't think the nice lady knew what she had, as she was currently using it for guitar lessons to teach kids on. She was the original owner. That first photo came through not very well so I'll try another one here. (IMG_20190818_203409.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_20190818_203409.jpg (63KB - 1 downloads)
