I am rebuilding a box of bits Deacon that recently came my way, and one thing I am curious about is the jack location on this one, compared to photos I have seen. The jack is located on metal carrier held with two screws mounted on the side, whereas all photos I've seen of Deacons show the jack mounted on the front scratch plate. I believe this is a pretty early model from other photos, it has the early single coil pickups, and the serial number is in the upper 400's range. Does anyone know if this is the correct jack location, or has it been modified at some point?

I am not an expert, but I think that the early Breadwinner/Deacon had the jack on the side of the body, hidden within the curve. But putting the jack on the pick-guard is quicker, cheaper, less labor.

I hope that this is helpful.

OMA is correct. The early ones had the jack on edge. Due to the pressure of a cable on the pickguard... that is actually a better place for it. Of course the pre-amp design is a bit different when it's there too.
