Off shore quality is as good as it's ever been, IMO. Not sure DW knew what was next regarding Ovation after xraiderman. Having someone like Rick consulting gives context, history and direction. Very exciting news to me.

The Korean TX was pretty good. But when I compared it to a USA 1778T, I promptly sold the TX. I could continue with... I have a CSE44 Korean Celebrity. It is a Great guitar, BUT... When compared to a USA-made 6778LX (or any USO) the offshore guitar is found lacking. I am sure that an Asian Ovation could be as good as an USA Ovation. But the whole point of manufacturing in Asia is the make guitars cheaper. I currently have a White 1778TX-6 made in Korea by DW since the takeover.... It is okay but.... It is NOT a "real" Ovation, it does not compare to my USA T's. [disclaimer] I do own a Journey (china) and a BC Rich (china) and Traveler guitars (china). I also own Seagull guitars that were made in Canada, but that is a whole 'nuther thing.

I've played several of the DW offshores now. Own a DW mandolin. It's my opinion they are a cut above celeb's of the past. Coming up on 50 years as an O player... granted, still a novice. As I said above, my 2 cents.

Rick Hall or not, I don't see Ovation ever coming back or rejuvenating its American roots reinventing itself in the process given how often they've tried already.

IMHO the best imports were the ones that Fender never had made because they decided to sell the company and cut ties with Ovation. The guitars from that namm show were really nice. and sounded pretty good. my experience of 25 years as a dealer.....well... I guess it's not worth anything....like my opinion. no I am not being negative for the sake of being negative I KNOW what kind of quality can be produced in Asia IF YOU PAY FOR IT!!!!! sure it is still cheaper than USA but not at the price point we are all used to seeing imports at. In fact... if you have noticed over the past few years imports are rising in price where I have a near mint USA elite T selling for UNDER what a new tx sells for..... caveat emptor
