(New member here, just bought my first Ovation thanks to research in the annals and documentaries you've made here!)

Anyway, the first really good 12-string song I learned on my dad's old Seagull was Wish You Were Here, my husband and I are long time Pink Floyd fans.

So when this auction showed up, we were intrigued. 127 of his guitars, ranging in estimated value from $300 to $150,000. All proceeds to charity, and several Ovations are in the list.

Ok, I just got lost for an hour or so browsing the catalog and reading up on some of the instruments. There sure is some heavy stuff. I assume he has retired. Notably he used a Legend as acoustic on Animals and The Wall.

Same here - we both spent WAAAAAAAAY too much time reading (skimming when we see it was played by someone else only, but really, opened) EVERY lot description, good times.

I wonder what makes the 1976 1619-4 (079930) so special that they estimate it'll go for $3,000 - $5,000?

There's another 1976 1619-4 (077453) that's estimated to fetch $1,000 - $1,500.

Granted the first one is fitted with a Sony ECM66 Electret Microphone, but those only go for ~$350 on Amazon.

Perhaps it has to do with the legacy of 079930. When reading the Lot Essay for this instrument it appears it was key on Comfortably Numb as well as Hey You by Gilmour himself and then the seconds.

The 1976 Ovation Custom Legend he used to demo “Comfortably Numb” on went for $399,000.

Now there's some good O appreciation!

celebrity owned instruments are always a wild card
never know where the hammer is going to come down

sometimes they go way cheaper than you think they will
