I've been a long time admirer of the Ovation guitar since I first saw my first one played by my high school teacher in the 70's growing up in Western Australia.

The rich tone, lovely sound quality and unique trademark body has always stayed with me.

Like most I tried in my 20's to learn the guitar ... but never kept at it.

Fast forward to late 2018 and in my 50's .... with the coxing of a friend who lent me their Yamaha GS720 Acoustic guitar it rekindled my passion to learn and TRY to play.

While I could use his guitar for a long as necessary there's nothing like your own guitar and as faith should have it I came across a second hand Celebrity Deluxe CS247 with a OP-30 pre-amp made in Korea.

I believe it was made in 1992 ... the pre amp is in a silver finish and the who pre-amp unit pops out to replace the 9 volt battery for the built in tuner.

I was advertised by a French gentleman who emigrated to Australia ... married ..... had kids and it has sat unused in his home for at least the last 10 years ....

While not an american made one ... its in beautiful condition ... and sounds lovely.

As a new proud owner and I'd like to get more information on it and learn about these unique guitars.

Cheers

Celebrity Guitars of that era are hard to "date" exactly.
The serial numbers do not have a "system".

Like Alpep said, if it has an OP-30 preamp it is from this century.

Old Man Arthur,

Thank you and Alpep for your assistance and wealth of knowledge.

I've done some research (Google can be your friend) using the OP30 Pre amp
(in silver) as a reference it was used around 2002 / 2003 (at its peak) till being replaced
by a Black plastic styled unit in 2004

Now that I have access to other forum pages I'll post a photo of it.

Prior to purchasing it I had a look at a new Ovation applause being sold here in Australia at a local music store and it was chalk and cheese in quality.

Although not an American made unit the quality of the workmanship of this S/Hand (2003 made) unit is evident and a testament to those in charge ensuring the high standard in what I believe is just a lovely guitar.

Credit also goes to the previous owner who has taken care of it for over 15 years and it will be cared for in the same manner by me.

Regards,

Baggy
