Looking forward to this new dicovery. To the] point, is it possible to refret an aluminum neck applause?
Next, for a $500+- budget, would you go for a new ovation or older used? Thanks.

Lots of people have tried... Unsuccessfully.

Older Used.
You can get a real USA Ovation for that kind of money.

Thanks for the reply, Arthur. My Applause has been with me since '79. Was thinking of a new top for it, but the frets are shot. I've wore them down, then my daughter wore them down more, which actually helped for a while. Looks like any hope for it will include a new neck. Just hate to see it put out to pasture.

Rumor has it that the original idea was that once the aluminum frets wore down, you could just put a new Neck on the guitar. Your guitar does have a bolt-on neck, correct?
But once those frets are shot, the guitar becomes a Slide Guitar.
People have tried to cut slots and install frets, and that did not go too well.

Yrs, it is a bolt on, two bolts. Would it be safe to assume not just any bolt on neck will do? Specific measurements are needed?

Maybe keep a close eye on eBay and Reverb and such for a similar model that has a bad body but a decent neck? I replaced a bad pre-amp that way once.
