In the wake of DWs "Official Announcement" with our beloved Mothership's future very much in question, Vincent (OMA's 97C that I recently acquired) and I had a bit of conversation, and we came up with a song...sort of a tribute song. Just a simple tune that I thought might be worth sharing. Forgive me for the low quality video and audio, but hoping that the core theme gets across. I recognize being a relative OFC newbie (2012) and living in Asia, could limit the reception of such an articulation, but after reviewing it a couple of times, it felt authentic; so I thought it might be appropriate to share it... Always seem to have trouble embedding videos, so a link is provided below.

https://youtu.be/5H-ARIQhznM

Despite all that's happened since joining the OFC, IMHO I think DW took a good crack at keeping things going at NH. The Mothership won't be the same outside of that historic brick and morter factory. Still, hoping and praying USA production will continue. Although I'm no USA only snob, O without a Mothership is like a pizza without the crust.

Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts on the song; and would surely love to hear any inspiration that is coming your way (meaning please post videos of you all playin' your Os)! Thanks for letting me share and thanks for listening.

Lyrics:
Charlie believed in technology,
But he also loved to play his guitar
An aerospace engineer with music ringin' in his ear
Dreamin' he could somehow pair his passions

Helicopter blades made from fiberglass and spruce
Filled his creative juice
Fast necks with low action, multi-epaulet attraction
And round back design became the fashion

If you asked me what devotion means
I'm not really sure what I'd tell ya
But I'll play my acoustic/electric guitar
And tell you 'bout a place called New Hartford

Soon Josh and Glen would lend their name to the brand
Melissa, Kaki, Al, Kevin and Nancy
Charlie's guitar was heard near and far
Then Adamas came and really made things fancy

Then Bill took the reigns of his father's domain
And led the Mothership to new heights
The brand expanded for competitive longevity
With Applause, Ultra, Pinnacle and Celebrity

If you asked me what devotion means
We could have a lively discussion
But if you're talkin' acoustic/electric guitar
The only thing to say is Ovation

Through Kaman Music, FMC, DW eventually
Through all the ups and downs and the changes
One thing remains mighty clear when I strum my round back dear
One thing resonates through all the stangeness

For 50 years great stuff appeared wow'd by their creative gear
Ovation fans just couldn't get enough
The Adamas, Balladeer and Legend, Collector's and Limited Editions
Man! What I'd do for a 1687!

If you asked me what devotion means
I guess I could point you to religion
But if you're talkin' acoustic/electric guitar
The only brand to play is Ovation

Now, times have changed and the industry is not the same
We're not really sure what devotion even sounds like
Guess that's the reason why I like to hear my round back fly
She reminds me there's somethings more important than playin' expensive guitars...

Like elegance in design with Customer Service beyond sublime
Blood sweat and tears at the factory
That's the resonation that you hear in my Ovation
Quality, excellence; and Yes, devotion

So, if you wanna know what devotion means
All you've gotta do is take a listen
   And hear my acoustic/electric guitar...
My New Hartford born Charlie Kaman engineered
      Craftsman quality so rare
Proudly made in the US of A
      Ovation!
   Now that's devotion!

Thanks OMA for your kind response. Really enjoying the 97C.
Changed FMC to FMIC (text) on the YouTube sight...and now that I think about it, I think I mispronounced Kaman! Sheesh...need to do another take...

Thanks a bunch!

Hey Ken. First time hearing your voice.. and you sound great! Vincent is looking quite perky, and was a very fitting choice to accompany you on your awesome Ovation tribute song. Thank you for sharing it! I wish I could reciprocate, but every time I try to record anything the resulting howl of the neighborhood dogs drowns out my voice and guitar, so I'll have to work on that. In the meantime, thanks again for letting us hear your song!

If nothing else, can you imagine someone you've never met writing a song about something YOU have done with your life. Bill....keep in mind that no one ever wrote a song about anything MY dad did, or that 99% of anyone did. Your dad was really something...

Thanks for the encouragement Cripple Rick. Far from a "quality" performance or recording, but can't blame the guitar for that! I really love the "12th Fretter" 97C. With its Touch Sensitive Pre-amp and completely re-designed "Parlor" Bowl, she still is a marvel of innovation (at least to me). Like Al said, she was a very fitting choice for this task. Would be cool if you could share a video too!

Thanks for the nice comment Darkbar. I feel honored that a player of your talents would even care to chime in. Since I've never been to the Mothership and have never personally met any of you guys, sharing the song from Asia (though I am a US citizen) felt a bit risky. Some OFCers worked at the Mothership, others were dealers with close ties to the Kaman family, still others use their instruments professionally, one in particular is in the song for cryin' out loud. I'm hoping those folks can take the "if nothing else" perspective and bare with my folk tale-ish outsider's view! Btw, you haven't uploaded any videos at "acoustisongs" in years. Anything new in the wings forya?

Thanks for the kind words.
No...due to health issues there probably won't be many, if any, new Acoustisongs videos. Happy with the good run I've had tho, and I'm still playing just about everyday.

Truly sorry to hear this. I can relate to health issues what with awaiting a spinal fusion in my neck and rods in my lower back. After 18 times of going through the front I guess they figure it's time to flip me over! Not looking forward at all to another round and all the requisite aftermath. By the way, for the neck spine fusion they're going through the front. MAYBE I'll end up with a vocal chords displacement that will make me sound like Joe Cocker. Anything would be an improvement. Take care.

Hmmmm.. maybe that notion could be expanded to bring on a whole new approach to "organ donor" programs worldwide. Many people could be walking around today with whole new singing voices thanks to the death of (pick a singer). Not that your singing voice is bad, Dave, but maybe you could start a medical and legal lobby for that before your surgery. If it comes to be, and a favorite singer is laying on their death bed, you could get on the donor list.
Or.. on second thought.. maybe ideas like this one are the reason I flunked out of medical school.

Just for grins, I did just post a new video lesson on Fly Me To The Moon. My voice is pretty shot, tho.
Youtube pisses me off...I can no longer embed the chords on the videos. Another reason to just stop.

The first song I ever learned to single-pick when I was about 8. The basic scale progression so easily just fit right in.

>>>Another reason to just stop<<<
Geeze man.. you're sounding as if we need to keep you away from sharp objects and cyanide capsules. You're scaring me.

Grinning!...and more Darkbar. Your "pretty shot" voice is still soulful and bluesy. Just love it. Your videos are helpful, educational and really easy to follow for mediocre hacks like me. You've had a great run up to this point, but I hope you'll continue uploading great lessons as time/health permits! Glad you're back!
