This past Friday night at my jam a guy named R.B. Lyndon wandered into my jam at a local restaurant. He had a case full of harmonicas. He sat in the back with a harmonica in his hand until I noticed him and invited him to play along. He was incredible. While talking with him between songs we learned he was lifelong friends with Mickey Newbury who was always my favorite songwriter. Mickey still holds an incredible record of simultaneously having three songs at #1 on 3 different charts. R.B. got my phone number and has called me twice. I'm going to get together with him to play some more music, this time I'll have a video of me playing with Mickey's harmonica player. I played a Newbury song at the jam he accompanied me on but nobody filmed it! He's in town taking care of an elderly mother. He shared some Townes VanZandt stories and told how he keeps in touch with both Townes' and Mickey's widows. TVZ is buried very close to my mother, brother and sister. Very strange how the universe concocts these meetings.

You're a lucky guy, Dave. I didn't remember Mickey Newbury until someone I worked with, (who hadn't heard of the Eagles) started talking about him and I found a few posts on the OFC about him and everywhere else on the internet.

I had R.B.'s last name wrong. It's Lindsay. Jonmark, check your PM's. He wants your phone number. Said you were a good guy.

R.B. just called me a few minutes ago. I heard a few stories of why Mickey Newbury hated Willie Nelson's guts after starting out as friends for a few years. No sense in relaying the particulars of what their beef was but it's dang interesting stuff to hear from someone who was there. R.B. offered to go to my friend's studio who is going to produce a demo of four of my favorite songs I wrote and he's going to play on it with me. I'm not believing this. How the universe brought my favorite songwriter's friend into my life blows me away. I have one song I can't wait to record with him on it. I hear it already with his awesome harmonica on it and I'm already feeling anxiety to get it done. And Jonkark, he speaks so very highly of you. I extremely envy both of you for your friendships with the incomparable Mickey Newbury. Your lives were infinitely blessed no doubt!

Mickey was my older brother for much of my life. It was a fun ride. FWIW, he and Willie burried the hatchet.
Enjoy your time with RB. Talented man.

And for the group... while Mickey had numerous guitars through the years, he had a favorite SSB custom classic he loved. We placed it in his exhibit at the Texas Country Music HOF when he was inducted.
