On the 177*LX models.. what does the "LX" stand for? The inner bowl stamp says the bowl is made by Ovation, and the label says made in New Hartford.. so is this purely a USA-made guitar? There is also the "LX" designation on the TRC. In very good condition with OHSC, and the guy will take $400, and it's red (of course those are better).. so I am thinking of picking it up.. but still curious about the designation and the build. This one is a 1771LX.

LX is good stuff. USA made, with the latest technology and designs. It was the 2000's era, continuing through to today. I can't speak to the latest DW era of offshore production how those compare to LX. Each era certainly has a character, with fans or detractors. I've owned several LX guitars and so have my daughters. All were excellent instruments acoustically and plugged in.

I would have no hesitation in buying a very good condition LX for $400. New they sold for two or three times that amount.

I still have a 6778LX-NEB (New England Burst).
I had a couple of 1771LX Balladeers, but I sold them when they were "common".
Now I regret selling them.
If that is a 1778LX in good condition it is definitely worth $400.

My guess is "Lyracord bowl, X bracing" but Miles may be right.

The LX guitars got the new bowl formulation that they referred to as microsphere.
