| Hi, everyone
I am new to the forum and I would like to solicit opinions about the Glen Campbell signature 12 string. The ones that I have seen lately are from the 1970s.
Among the negative comments I've heard is that the slotted headstocks present problems and do not sound as good as the 14 fret Ovation 12 strings. Also, I have heard that the tonewoods are not as good as in other Ovation 12s. And, structurally, have they held up?
On the other hand, I have heard that the Glen Campbell 12-string model has a great chimey sound to them (which I like). Plus I absolutely love the way they look- the old Ovation rosette in the Natural color.
So, please give me your opinions!!

I don't have a GC 12 string but I have an 1158 Custom Legend 12 string,12 fret slothead basically a fancier version of the GC.
With regards to the slothead design most people say the slotted headstock provides a superior sound with the increased break angle of the strings the negatives are string changes are more of a pain and you have to be careful not to drop them they break easier,i've seen many picture of repaired headstocks so get good pics of the guitars your interested in so you can tell if they've had any work done.
Another big difference of the GC's is the 12 frets to the body,this moves the bridge farther down into the soundboard creating better vibration.
As far as wood quality goes the ovation catalog for 1970's says sitka spruce for the GC model,being as it's a artist model I would say it would be a better quality then the pacemaker 1115 that shares a similar design but would be a step down,the step up would be what I have the Custom Legend 1158 with a AAA spruce top.
Tonewise the 12 fretters have a great chimey sound with lots of mids and highs and rich harmonic overtones from the octave strings.
As far as standing the test of time if the guitar is well cared for it will last a long time the main concern with 12 strings is bellying of the top or neck issues that cause high action so ask for pics again and the height of the strings at the 12th fret so you know if the guitar will play well.
If you really like the GC model but want a newer guitar there was a limited edition reissue you could look for.

Location: 6 String Ranch | Slotted heads are just a pain to change strings. They do have a better break angle.
The woods used for the 1118 and 1618 were a step above the 1115/1615.
12 frets tend to sound better |

"Chimney sound" is that like when your playing your guitar in a little brick room with a fire under your but LOL
"Chimey" from the urban dictionary xylophony or high pitched like the high bell like octave strings on a 12 string guitar when strummed.

Location: Muenster/Germany | These are the best ! sounding wood-top 12string OV´s. Unfortunately some of them have problems with a bow in the fretboard behind the 12th fret. Mine was so bad and the neck so tight that no neckreset was possible. We had to cut off the neck and turn it into a bolt-on type. The guitar has lots of surface cracks and scratches and and needed new frets and the fretboard and even the trussrod broke within the ordeal. Luthier Ernie Rissmann and I re-built this mistreated guitar step by step, finally I removed the electrics (without function), built a replacement bridge out of ebony and brass and today this old "construction area" is one of my absolute favourite 12string guitars. From 10 m it looks exactly like 2wheeldrummer´s.
