Hi:

I am new to the fan club! I just bought a beautiful Glen Campbell Signature 1627 from Damon at Red Blanket Guitars!! He is awesome and most knowledgeable!!!

I used to own an 1866 Custom Legend(that shattered when dropped!) and I am considering options. Apparently, the Glen Campbell 12-string models are all 12-fretters with "slotted" head stocks. I have been advised by some to stay away from these-- but, they are awful pretty!!!

I have been looking at the Ovation web site. It appears that no 12-strings are made in New Hartford, CT ( I live about 10 miles away). so:

a) Any opinions on the ones on the web site-- especially the Collector's Series Legend Plus 12-string?
b) I do not want an Adamis ( I can't get past the looks!)
c) I want something in the "Natural" look, old-style rosette that sticks up a little bit!

Thanks,

Karl

Hiya Karl,

Don't be surprised if you don't get many answers yet. Not everyone can reply to posts in the "Welcome" section. A mod will come along eventually to give you access. When that happens, start a new post in the "General" section to get a wider opinion. (Hopefully not too wide!)

In the meantime, The Glen Campbell 12-stringers are very nice instruments. (Look who played them after all!) That being said, they have a unique, very chimey tone, that people seem to either love or hate. I happen to think they sound wonderful. You can also keep an eye out for used USA-made 12'ers which can be found for very reasonable prices. Look for a Custom Balladeer or Legend, and you can stay well under a grand. There is a beautiful, black-finish Legend 12-string in a local shop here priced at $600 I believe. I've played it. It's DARN nice!

I've had my Custom Balladeer since the 80's, and it holds its own against any other 12-string I've ever met for sound and playability.

But if you really like the 12-fret configuration (And I certainly can't blame you.), then there are FAR worse instruments out there than a good GC 12'er.

Good luck in your search! See you round the forum and welcome aboard!

An Ovation 1615 Pacemaker is also an option for likely in the $500 or less range and a fine instrument.

Thanks Patch and Mr. Ovation for your replies!!! Do either of you know when I will be able to post in the General Forum? Is there a time period or must I post enough posts here?
