Hi there. I am new to the Ovation and the fan club.
I came here looking for information.
The local Artisans Store has an Ovation 1612 for sale, and if the tag is correct it has serial number 24717 on a black and white tag above the label.
My question is about the date of manufacture, from what I've read it should be around 1971. But I've read somewhere about the neck truss adjustment being on the head for this year guitar. This particular one has th adjustment inside the body.
The guitar itself looks in good shape, almost to good for that vintage of guitar.
Is there anything in particular I should look at before I make the purchase ? The price is 275 U.S. w/o the case.
Thank you

I made an error in transposing the serial #. It should have been 247717 a six digit number which would date it to 1981.And that would explain the confusion.
Paper label inside.

$275 ain't bad.
What to look for...
String height at the 12th Fret.
Fret Wear on the first 5 frets.
Fingernail dents in the fingerboard.
Check to see if the bridge is lifting.
(see if you can slip a piece of paper under the back side of the bridge)
Look for neck twist.
Check to be sure that the electronics work.

If you can get to play it before buying it, that is always good.
