Another unit is downstairs which does an ok job keeping the rest of the house at about 30% humidity in the winter. They each hold about 4 gallons of water, and each needs to be refilled every day or two in the coldest part of the winter. It is very dry here, about 10% or less. So these units do a good job of putting water into the air.

The bandroom is in the basement, which tends to help moderate the swings in humidity between summer and winter here in Colorado. The room is about 280 square feet. I don't have very good luck with humidifiers or dehumidifiers. They last only about a year or two, and the analog models seem less prone to failure than the digital models. YMMV.

Joined: March 2005 Posts: 12759 Location: Boise, Idaho | I had a Bionaire room humidifier that I had to fill every couple of days in the basement, but when we moved to an upstairs room about 30 by 15 I had to fill it almost every day. I was running downstairs to fill it in a sink big enough. Then the handle broke from overuse. I got a whole house Aircare EP9800 that I keep at 40%. I found a watering pitcher that I can fill in the sink about 6 feet away and pour a gallon in at a time. The only problem is it's noisy. The climate here is like Flysig's and lately we just started a cold spell where I go through about a gallon a day. The humidistat is about 10% off from the Bionaire.

I have it set at 50 (MN winters and furnaces running almost constantly), and I fill it once a day. It has a filter that needs to be changed once every 3 months, and keeps out mold and cleans the water. It works GREAT! And it looks like a piece of furniture, so it blends in, instead of standing out, and drawing attention away from those Great Looking Babies on the Wall! ![]() Here it is at Walmart: https://www.walmart.com/ip/AIRCARE-H12-400HB-Console-Humidifier-for-... It is big enough to humidify an area quickly, and keeps it there. It is quiet (like that would matter in my Zoo), and I have had No Problems with it at all! Edited by Nancy 2017-12-07 9:12 AM

Joined: March 2005 Posts: 12759 Location: Boise, Idaho | I just remembered that mine was my Christmas present last year. I can't remember why I didn't go with the bigger one like Nancy got. I did spend a lot of time trying to find one where I didn't have to remove a tank to fill it. We also looked at adding a humidifier to the furnace to do the whole house, but that was not workable on our system. A room upstairs seems to get much drier than one in the basement in the winter. Al may be correct. If you can keep the room warm so the furnace doesn't come on so much, it won't dry out as fast.
