I'm going to ignore your explanation of your pressure tool and uncork at least one just to satisfy my curiosity. You should too. Congratulations on a job well done.

So I followed Dan´s advice...
But thus it has become a little more "MY GUITAR". Can you understand that?

I know exactly what you mean! Congratulations on a job well done, DetlefMichel! Any chance of getting to hear the fruits of your labor via video?

Ok that´s the last post:
Yesterday I took my time and made what I call "fine-tuning", nut and action and stringspacing. And again the playability of this 12 string guitar is at least 50% better.
The top appears to have settled. I still have two warps on the sides and the area fom the soundhole to the bridge has sunk a bit, but not as much as before and it is flat now, before I had a suspicious looking extreme bow around the soundhole. No noises if I change tunings. I think I can leave that as ist is.
I took the guitar home where my other Ovations are and could compare it with the other 12strings.
Just as I told you, not so much dynamics, but surprisingly bright projection, when played with normal intensity louder than the 1759! Surely the 1658 and the 1538 can outplay it, but that´s no wonder.
Played electrically the guitar shows her improvements: easy to control and a very balanced and firm modeling(sounds like a super-jumbo) , this is a perfect stage guitar.
And soooooooooo nice
Too bad that I have no video camera, maybe I can ask afriend about one, will see.
Thanks again to all of you for your interest and yous sympathy.

Congratulations Detlef, I'm so happy that everything went well and that you're so happy with it! I always thought it was a perfect stage guitar too. Get ready to have people come up and ask about it every time you take it out of the case.

I found out that my small Lumix camera has microphones so I made a short video of the 1658x and put it on youtube:

Thanks for posting the video DetlefMichel! I love listening to our OFC players and their guitars. Finger picking a twelve like you do is no easy task, and it's always nice to connect the guitar with a face. AND that '97 Parlor is really special. What an awesome job you did of restoring her back to health. She sounds incredible even through the Lumix mic. Like you said that additional brace does not sound like it's interfering with her resonance at all! A gracious, courageous and well thought-out repair. Thanks for sharing and congratulations!

Geeze.. give a guy a 1658x and a calendar page and the next thing you know he's an online superstar. I wish I could play that style like that... much more on a 12er! Very nice, Detlef! Thank you for posting.

Late to the party, very interesting. I think I'd try carbon fiber uni on the sides of the main braces versus the aluminum. I wonder about the thermal expansion contraction rate of the metal compared to the wood.

I don´t think that the range of temperature which is within the normal use of a guitar can affect the thermal expansion of any metal so that structural problems might occur (except you play a very hot version of "Sympathy for the devil"), especially that of such a small component. Better don´t think about the K-bar in an Ovation neck during a summer day or you´ll get nightmares;-)
The only problem is that the metal reinforcement that was used for the braces is way too weak.

I made a second video for all of you who like fingerstyle guitar on the 12 string. BTW I don´t play special pieces of music, (because, if I did I had to play them right), most of the time I play what comes in my mind that moment....

Fun stuff, love the tone. What did you record with?

Ha on the K bar! I do like carbon fiber though because it is light, vibrates like wood with even better fatigue resistance and has the strength of steel. Which reminds me to peer under the hood of my mandolin.....
