Greetings everyone! I found a 2080 on Reverb that looks like the OFC special, but it appears to have a carbon body. I am too lazy to figure out how to add the link, please forgive me. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this guitar and if it is a custom? I have a 2080 and a 2080ES and am curious about it. Thanks!

It's not an OFC2.

It looks more like the 2007 NAMM custom shop guitar, (especially since the bowl has no access port) but, I believe that the NAMM 2080 had a gloss black neck and an opaque gloss black bowl, that guitar has neither. Even if someone stripped the paint off the neck and (somehow) the bowl, I don't think it would look like that. With that glossy clear coat on the bowl, it looks more like it's made of carbon fiber than hand-laid fiberglass (but I could be wrong.)

Did Ovation ever make any contour bowls out of carbon fiber?

Does anyone know where the 2007 NAMM 2080 was last seen? (The archive is a bit inconclusive)

(It also could be made of Photoshop. The seller has only one review and only one item for sale.)

But, it also could be a prototype or one-off (or a frankenvation.)

That's a Carbon Fiber bowl. There's got to be a story, but someone should JUMP on this.. That's a fantastic price.

I was thinking the same thing Senior Ovation, but was curious about the sound of the bowl, or if the top and bowl could be one piece? The few Rainsongs I've played, the sound was very dull and they felt like plastic. Any of you think it could ruin the sound? It is beautiful, but I have other beautiful Ovations and Adamii already.

Someone here must know the story?

It's hard to guess what it might sound like without actually playing it. Apparently, the Q181 had a carbon fiber bowl (and neck) but I've never seen/played one of them, maybe someone who has a Q will comment…

Hi Juan!

I own an Emerald (GASP! The Horror of it!! ) And it has the Carbon Fiber Top, Bowl, and Neck. Once piece construction, and I would put it up against an Adamas any day of the week. Incredible Sound, sustain, unplugged or plugged in. If this is indeed a prototype, or Custom Order it could be Incredible!

(And yes, the Emerald is the ONLY Non-Ovation Guitar in the Nan-Cave, that's how good it is! )

I sold the 2007 NAMM guitar to AJ. The contour bowl was fiberglass (not CF) but finished super glossy, just like the neck and headstock which were wood underneath. The Q is totally CF and although not a contour bowl, the glossy finish with the woven CF visible is very similar to this one on Reverb. Interestingly on the Q even though the bowl is CF and the guitar has no electronics, there is an access hole in the back. The cover plate to the hole is probably the worlds most expensive Frisbee.

Hi Nancy, it is an honor to have the opportunity to converse with the keeper of the Nan-Cave! It is legendary Thank you for that information about the Emerald. I don't think I have ever heard of those, but they look really interesting. I come from the racing world and I have an affinity for carbon fiber.

This 2080 is definitely intriguing. I appreciate all of your input, and enjoy learning from each of you!

I own a few Carbon Fiber guitars (5).
My CF guitars have more low-end than my Adamas guitars.

Unless there has been a change,
Adamas guitars have WOOD in the top sandwiched between Carbon Fiber.
Whereas my CF guitar have totally Carbon Fiber tops.
Honestly... My Adamii sound better than my Composite Acoustic and Journey guitars.

My thinking would be that the Carbon Fiber bowl might not change the sound that much since the sound comes from the TOP of the Adamas guitar.

I know most of you recommend the textured topped Adamii, but to those who have owned or played a finished topped 2080, can you describe the difference? I own a W597 and I do enjoy the smooth sound  of it, but I don't know how much of that is due to the mid-depth body compared to my contoured 2080s.

Just find and buy an original slothead and stop shopping for guitars. Your search will be over.

Walla Walla is a long way from anywhere. 5 hour drive from Miles and 4 hours for me.

Has anyone asked the seller about it?

I'll be in Walla Walla in 3 weeks. If someone is interested in buying it I can try to take a look at it while I'm there.

I have messaged the seller, but no response yet. I am interested in it, and already had the conversation with my wife about promising to sell off one of tbe other 2080s, so I may take you up on your offer. Thanks!!

If it's legit and is what it appears to be (a CF bowl 2080), then it's unlikely to remain unsold for three more weeks. (Many more people read this board than participate in the discussions.)

A quick look at the Prices of other USED Adamii on Reverb will show you that this is a Good Deal.
Someone is going to notice that, eventually.

I keep expecting to see this item sold when I check this thread.

It MAY be a good deal, if it's legitimate and doesn't have any major problems. It may actually carry some extra value due to its uniqueness. As to the OP's question of whether it sounds as good or better than other Adamii, that remains TBD.

It WOULD match perfectly with a carbon-fiber Ovation case…

if you can find one…

(mine is definitely not for sale… nor is the guitar that's in it.)

;-)

Nevermind everyone!! Finally heard back from the seller. The tag inside the guitar says "Genuine Fauxvation"!

Nothing to see here...

Who would have gone to the trouble of making a CF contour bowl other than Ovation? Someone may have gotten ahold of an unused prototype bowl (and top?) and stuck a neck on it. Who knows?

It's still an interesting curiosity.

It's funny that you say the seller sent you a picture that says its a
"Genuine Fauxvation"
I contacted the seller and the pictures he sent me of the label, headstock front and preamp all say "Adamas" and "ovation",The label is the standard printed one for that era and says "Adamas by Ovation",Contour Bowl,Model No. 2080,A KAMAN MUSIC PRODUCT-MADE IN NEW HARTFORD CT,USA
From my reading online Ovation started a custom shop push in 2007 and made a number of special 2080's as well as offered buyers the option to customize there own,I would guess this is a custom 2080 with all cross-weave carbon fiber top and bowl, yes someone could have photoshopped the bowl but why?
I am not a shill for the seller nor do I know him,I saw this guitar a few weeks ago when it was first listed on Reverb and thought "cool guitar" but didn't have the spare cash to grab it and thought the pictures lacked in being able to identify it,I will happily email anyone interested copies of the pictures sent to me.

Shame on the person trying to deceive ovation fans by claiming it had a fake label!!!
