I just joined and have a Ovation 1111-4 with a Black stamped 4 digit number inside. Does that sound like a late 1960's or 1970 model? It is a Ballader with a winged bridge and satin finish back. Thanks

Does you guitar have any kind of label?
Does it have residue from label glue so that you can see if it was a rectangular or oval label?

Look Here: http://www.ovationtribute.com/Date%20your%20Ovation.html

I have a winged bridge 1627 that was made in 1970 or so.

Thanks Arthur, there is a oval medal Ovation 1111-4 label but no serial number on paper. No sign of glue that a paper label may have been there. Where the neck goes into the guitar body are the black stamped 4 digit numbers 58XX. The back of the bowl is not shiny. Going by that Ovation serial number link, black stamped 4 digit numbers with no prefix are 1968-1969 but the bridge is a winged bridge like a 1972 Balladeer? Thanks

I am not an expert on such things.
It is possible that your guitar was repaired at the MotherShip.
Back in the day, they might put a new body on an old neck.
They did that for me with a 1115 Pacemaker.
On mine, they saved the old silver label.

It is also possible that we are getting confused by those numbers.
They might not mean anything.

Photos would help
Hopefully a wiser person will come along.

Thanks Arthur, Yea that's all I have to go on. I looked at a lot of online 60's and 70's Ovation catalogs and while the winged bridge may have come out before 72 that is the first time I found a Balladeer. with that type bridge. I couild be wrong but in the catalogs I think the satin bowl finish started showing up in the catalogs in about 1970.

Shiny Bowl production ended around 1969.
HERE is a discussion.
So... Textured bowls after that (except for some special issues).
