Is there an existing complete collection of all Ovations?
Or: which is supposed to be the most complete Ovation collection?

I doubt it. Sammy's collection of Collectors Series would be a good start.

I have fears that the most complete Ovation collection (or ANY Ovation collection) is currently in some house in rural Kansas where some old guy died a few years back and his widow, who never really cared about his collection of "stuff", finally decided to cram it all into the basement. When the widow dies 20 years from now, their clueless kids will be so giddy about inheriting his 14 classic Camaros that they will simply throw Dad's stupid old plastic guitars into the incinerator out back just to watch the black smoke, and mount spoilers on the back of the Camaros. That's what me and my half-empty glass fears.

I recently have seen a sticker on a guitar case:
"My biggest fear is
that when I die my wife
will sell my guitars for
what I told her they cost"

But to be serious, I thought there might have been a kind of "basic" collection in the Ovation factory?

I would assume that, individually,  "Povation" has a good shot at coming close to what you are looking for. http://www.ovationtribute.com/Autres%20Collections/Povation_Collect... ... and I would bet that he has added to it since this page was created. But, collectively, I would think you need not look any further than the OFC. Although the membership seems to have contracted over the years, I think the current members could cover the entire spectrum.

A collection of every Ovation model would be one hell of a lot of guitars and a lot of near identical guitars. I have owned a lot over the years (around 240) but certainly NOT all at the same time. A typical scenario is that you buy a Balladeer, then resell it to step up to a Deluxe Balladeer, than sell it to move on to a Legend, etc etc. In the grand scheme they are not really all that different of a guitar.

A nice little "collection" that I had which I thought was kinda cool was the Storm Series guitars. At one time I had all 8 original models in almost every color (never could find a green Thunderhead) and it totaled around 30 guitars. Also once had all 7 original shiny bowl models which I think is kind of unique. Even had a visit by the mystery 8th model, the Contemporary Folk Classic.

But alas, I figured there was about 4 people in the world that would have the slightest interest in this stuff other than me.

Contemporary Folk Classic was a shiny bowl supershallow non-cutaway classical. They made 4 of them in '67 each with different color shiny bowl ... red, blue, green and black. Bill brought the green one over and we took some photos which I'll have to dig up. It was just the 4 of them, never went into production.

Many years ago Sam saw this one for sale (I believe they were asking $2,500), and he sent me the picture. Unfortunately I haven't seen it in person.

Sam had the black one at one time, but it was sold to another OFC member. I played it, but it was a somewhat crude as the frets had never been dressed.

The only one yet to surface is the blue one, but I heard that it belonged to Bill's mother. Maybe it's in the barn.

Remember THIS sale?....

OH YES, and other people here in the neighbourhood spent their money on an Mercedes SLR...

Do you think that all the OFC members together can make it COMPLETE, all known (at least USA...)models still alive?
Maybe we could first make a list an then FINALLY make a new Ovation-picturebook?
