Hi all

I'm looking at two USA 12 strings - a 6751 Balladeer and an 1866 Legend. Prices are similar. Any opinions that might help me choose?

First, the one with the least wear.
Second, the one with the better Preamp.
Third, the one with the nicest color.

Generally, a Legend is a more upscale model than a Balladeer.
The Legend has more Fret dots. The Legend might have better wood.
The Balladeer has a Mid-Depth bowl, the Legend has a Super Shallow bowl.
So the Balladeer will have more Bass acoustically than the Legend.
But they will sound much the same when plugged-in.
If either of them is an LX model, those have LX Scalloped Bracing, and an improved neck-joint.
Otherwise, here is a comparison of the features...
But these might NOT BE the actual features of YOUR guitar, depending on the year.
But it will give you an idea of the differences.

BALLADEER
Model 6751

12-String Acoustic/Electric
Body Type: Mid-Depth Cutaway
Top: A Grade Solid Spruce
Bracing: A Brace
Scale Length: 25 1/4"
Scale:
Fretboard: Rosewood
Fret Inlay: Pearl Dots
Bridge: Walnut
Rosette: Oakleaf
Pickup: Ovation Thinline
Nutwidth: 1 7/8"
Machines: Chrome

LEGEND
Model 1866

12-String Acoustic/Electric
Body Type: S/Shallow C/A
Top: AA Grade Solid Sitka spruce
Bracing: Ovation A
Scale Length: 25 1/4
Scale:
Fretboard: Ebony
Fret Inlay: Mother of Pearl
Bridge: Ebony
Rosette: Inlaid Oakleaf
Pickup: TruBalance
Nutwidth: 1 7/8
Machines: Gold Ovation

I hope that this help a little...
But if you get to play them side-by-side, then it would be much easier.

Hi Arthur

Thanks for the reply. The 1866 is black, from 1998 with an OPX preamp, while the 6751 is natural, from 2002 with an OP30. Neither is an LX. I had a Celebrity CC245 but wasn't impressed with the tone. Sold it and I'm finally getting around to looking for a better USA replacement.

Okay... This is a matter of personal preference, but I would go with the Natural top.
Natural tops look cool with age... Gloss Black tops show every fingerprint and pick-track.
Plus, the OP-30 Preamp has a tuner, and can easily be swapped-out if necessary.

With any guitar you want to look at Fret Wear and string height at the 12th Fret.

I had a 6751 and now have a 6756lx legend. I think I liked the tone and playability of the 6751 better!
