Location: Ontario, Canada | I’m into the third day with my ‘new’ old Ovation, Model 1624-4, Serial Number 009874.
I’ve been wanting a Classical Ovation with nylon strings for going on 45 years now, and finally picked up a beautiful USA-made one that is just about spotless except for a few tiny hairline cracks in the lacquer at the bottom of the body running across the grain of the wood. I’m thrilled to have it! It even came with an original black, blue-lined Ovation hard case.
I’m very curious about how old this guitar might be? I wouldn’t be surprised if it is going on 40-45 years old, but it has certainly been VERY well taken care of! I understand this model was inspired by the great Glen Campbell himself!
One more question, while I’m at it...I was originally hoping to find an Ovation with the built-in tuner, but of course this one does not have it. Is it possible to have a modern Ovation-made tuner installed in this guitar?
Many thanks for any help one might give, and I look forward to enjoying many, many hours of browsing through all of the forums, once I am granted permission.
