The problem is that you kids today want your guitars pointed out to you by someone else, then you want them delivered to your door in good condition. When I was young, if I wanted an Adamas, I'd have to walk five miles through the snow, only to find the nearest music store didn't have any. Now behave, or I'll hit your picking hand with the yardstick again!

2wheeldrummer - 2017-01-17 6:11 PM d'ovation - 2017-01-17 9:28 AM There are some other "interesting"/uncommon Adamas on Ebay, and not necessarily well described: a 1688-9 (not sure what colour that actually is): The 1688-9 is listed as brown-burst on the Ovation Tribute site, same color as the one John Denver had,not seen to often it seems so a rarer color I would guess.
I would do bodily harm for that -9, I LOVE that color, and it is just like John Denver's, only in much better condition. (And his was selling for $60,000!!!!) But it is not going to happen, so I sure do hope it goes to a great home!

This auction is almost done with two bidders driving the price into the stratosphere ... anyone from here admitting to this?

???

It's at $1000. What do you think a 1581 should go for? If I were to put mine up it would be closer to the $2k range.

And those are probably his 2 fans

I referred to the 1688 not the one of the original post.

I have to wonder when someone with 0 ebay experiences ends up as the high bidder on anything. I was in that position a couple of times myself and bought guitars without knowing what I was getting. My learning curve ended at $200, though, not $4750.

The non-winning bidder didn't do the winning bidder any favors...sold for $4750. But we're talking about a rare 1688 in what may be the rarest color.

Hopefully, it is going to a good home, where it will be appreciated, and at that price it will help drive other prices up for Sellers. Love to see them appreciated, and valued at their worth!

As far as the two people bidding on Trey's 1581....

I Finally learned to just bid what I am willing to pay, then wait.
They will send me an email telling me if I have won or lost.
Although I may bit 5 times at once in ever increasing denominations...
Just to confuse other bidders.
I have already decided how much it is worth to me and leave it at that.

I learned that by getting into bidding wars and paying $450 for a $250 guitar.

That's the best way to go...I learned the same lesson the hard way.

The 1581-8 "sold" for $1624, but it has been relisted.

The 1688-9 mentioned earlier in this thread "sold" for $4750, but has also been relisted.

Interesting...

Looks to me like they didn't like the price that had been bid so they "bought" it back just to relist as a higher BIN price.

They seem to have higher expectations for their "Owned by Country Music Star" guitar.
$1624 seems like a fair price for a Road Guitar with a crappy description.

Bidding-on and Buying your own stuff on eBay is against the rules.

Agree! By rules, you won that auction with your high bid.

It looks like the buyer backed out on the 1688-9,
the new ad says please don't bid if you can't afford to pay.

Seller claims the buyer was trying to secure a loan to pay, but didn't get the money.

If your going to drive the price up in a bidding war you should have the money to pay for it.
I feel sorry for the seller he thought he got a high price and now has to start over.

2WD-- If you are Selling, and the Winning bid backs-out you can/should send a 2nd Chance Offer to the next highest bidder.

But old eBay etiquette seems to have gone away in around 2008.

One hour left on the 1688 and still under 3K ... seems the previous non-winning bidder is getting a better deal this time.

It sold to the same person who bought it the last time.
A phony shill bidder.
I understand that they want more than $1K....
But if you want more... Just start the bidding at the price that you want.

If you buy something from "yourself" on Ebay, and the sale is completed, don't you still owe Ebay the commission? If so, then why would someone keep buying something from their own self if and keep relisting it if they have to pay each time? That's just plain nutty.

LOF-- What they did the first time is that the shill bidder won to beat the real bidder.
Then they just said that he refused to pay and canceled the sale. No commission, no fees.

Also... I contacted them back then and the seller said that "Trey" bid on the first listing.
That is who bid on this second listing.
By this time, I wouldn't buy anything from them.
