1981 Vintage Ovation 1657 10th Anniversary Edition A/E Serial # 234246 Specs:
· Top: Sitka Spruce · Scale Length: 25 1/4″ · Fretboard: Ebony · Ivory Binding · Fret Inlay: 15 Genuine Abalone · Bridge: Carved Walnut · Pickup: Stereo Piezo · Nut width: 1 11/16″ · Machines: Deluxe 24K Gold Plated · Deep bowl body · Official Ovation hard shell case included. (inside case strap needs repair) Asking $1,000. or $900. This guitar is in excellent condition and the tone is incredible! The man who owned it took very good care of it. It has 3 very small dings on the top, near where the strap peg connects, and some very minor wear under the strings between the 1st & 3rd strings… hardly noticeable. The inside case retainer strap needs repair/replacement. The bottom of the hard shell case has normal wear with a few scratches and the top is in very good shape. The interior is in beautiful condition, and the inside compartment is intact, with the velvet door; tape holds it in position.
The man who owned it wants to be sure whoever buys it will take good care of it, but play it – not just leave it in the case. Before he died, he asked my hubby and I to find a good home for it, but try to get a decent amount for it for his widow. We're hoping the OFC will have someone here to help us in that regard. Thanks very much! DebbieS

FYI pricing reference, there's one for sale here in SF Bay Area California that's just like yours... they are asking $850 for it. Here's a CL link-- https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/msg/5903203718.html But wait--there's more. Yet another one in CA, this one down south toward Los Angeles, also asking $850. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/ant/msg/5877738599.html Edited by Love O Fair 2016-12-19 7:16 AM

We miss jamming with him... if my hubby didn't have an Ovation Legend of his own, and we had the room and enough money, we wouldn't even be selling it for his widow. We would add it to our guitar collection. But he wanted it played, which is why I came to the Ovation F.C. site.

Yeah, people say all kinds of stuff on Craigslist... often totally clueless.. so buyer beware, and ask questions! As for this listing, I see lots of photos in common with the one Debbie has for sale, one of which showing the label with "1657", so I referenced it as such regardless of what the seller may ramble on about in their own head.. lol.

Thanks very much! I'm new to this site, and am like a babe in the woods here. Yes, by all means, we'll accept $850 for the guitar, plus shipping. My hubby will take it to UPS and get pricing to ship it, probably tomorrow. Thanks again! Most gratefully,

I agree! They are an artistic masterpiece, with the layered headstock and heel plate, as well as the carved bridge and headstock decoration. The rich, colorful tone is great, and it sounds great acoustic as well as electric.

The layers on the headstock and heel were unique to that version of the Legend. To my knowledge, the next guitar they did like that was the Adamas II. I at one time had a few versions of A-braced non-cutaway Legends, a 1619 Custom, a standard 1617 Legend, and the Anniversary. I decided I only needed one, and that's the one I kept. Not to mention I've bought it twice now, so it's in the stars for it to live out it's life here... or my life anyways. Good luck

Thanks, Damon; I appreciate your reply. I imagine the non-cutaway has a fuller sound, although this Anniversary's tone is hard to beat.

I wish I could have found a buyer on this site, since you are such a wonderful bunch of Ovation enthusiasts. However, his wife needs the money, so I'll need to sell it more quickly than anticipated. I sure hope I can find someone as much in love with Ovations as the nice folks here! Best wishes to all, and keep on playing music! DebbieS

Tried stapling it but it didn't hold. It's a wonderful guitar that plays very well and sounds beautiful. Someone will be made very happy.
