Amazing that 15 years ago a rare holy grail coming up for sale would have sparked 100's on replies, offers, pleading, begging, dreaming ...

I took out #42 yesterday and played for awhile. Sad that so few people have ever (and will ever) experience just how good these really are. You just can't put into words how much better these are than any other Adamas known to man. The reissues were close and had all the ingredients. But in the end the fact is that you just can't replicate mojo.

Mojo is rare. Mojo is expensive. Mojo is in the DNA, it's either there at birth or it isn't. I can't describe what Mojo is, but I know when it's missing and as good as Ovation/Adamas instruments are, there's not a damn one of them that has the Mojo of the original Slotheads. And I doubt we'll ever see it again.

Have they gone up in demand/value or have disposable incomes gone down?

The very first one I saw change hands on this board back in 2002 went for $4500. Last ones I think were 12-ish. I'd say that's not too bad.

Using a CPI calculator with Cliff's example above the 1978 $2,400.00 translates to 2016 $8,886.92 but there is a lot more to the formula.

There are a finite number available and most of those are tied up with famous Artists and will enter the "OMG" value category.

These are historical and high quality so it comes down to the pain threshold of the seller and the Buyer.

I'm pretty sure Damon hasn't had a full night's in a while...

I did get to play a Slothead at Damon's PNW Gathering.
And compare it with other Adamii and Ovations.
So I do know what I am missing.
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

(the little Alt-code music notes didn't come-out )

Hence the term, "hand carved".
