Location: CA | Ok, i know that the gorgeous kauri and other Celebrity tops are a pretty laminate over some (hopefully) half decent cut of spruce. And that the combo equals a less than stellar tone. But i wonder if the same is true of the various Collectors series, for example the 1990 model with a birdseye maple top. Is this top a real, single piece of maple or laminate? Andif the latter, would the sound "suffer" (for lack of a better word) accordingly? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I traded a Celebrity Deluxe for a 99 Collector with a gorgeous bubinga top. When I first played the 99, I thought it didn't sound as good as the Celebrity, but because it looked so good, I convinced myself that my ears were lying to me. I thought it had to be the strings, because they both had mid-depth bowls and the same shape. It took me a while to accept the fact that the dense bubinga panel just wouldn't open up to a nice full sound. I sold it to someone who was convinced that it was the best sounding of all my Ovations and Adamas. He later admitted that he had let his eyes do the listening. A dense wood, especially combined with glue, just doesn't vibrate as well as a softer wood like spruce or cedar. The carbon fiber tops on Adamas guitars are different. They are very thin and vibrant. |

Location: NW Indiana | I have 'almost' convinced myself to keep my 2078AX-BCB rather than buy a new C2078AXP-AF Okume Feather that I am lusting after. It seems that my guitar has everything except the bling on the soundboard of the Okume Feather. From this thread, it looks like the veneered top of the Okume might deaden the sound? Any thoughts? Thanks to all.....
