Location: 6 String Ranch | In fact I think Tim's the guy who told me about it on ebay. The one he told me about was sold but the seller told me there were two and I could have the second one. I called National and found out there were 8 gold ones made, 4 here, 4 Japan and corrected him as I bought the second one. |

Gertrude...Jewel...Blanca...Jazzey...Johanna...Rosa...Jacquita...Gilda...Sugar (1111-4, CE868LX-4, Viper, Tornado, 1621 and 1624, Guild Classical, Guild Dred, Steinberger cheapie bass.)
The triplets have been re-united; adopted out at birth to different families, Gertrude, Johanna and now Rosa (from San Antonio) are happily together again under one roof. :)

She arrived safely yesterday, and promptly entranced all the folk in my bluegrass group who know that I tend to pick pretty good favors of ice cream. (I usually end up playing my just-barely-a-mandolin Plink, 'cause someone's always borrowing whichever one of my guitars is there........)
And as for family planning, well, families do come in all different sizes. ;)

Location: 6 String Ranch | I forgot about Uncle Byron too. He's a 1931 National Duolian that was owned by a black coal miner in West Virginia. Uncle Byron bought it from him in the 40s(for $10). Steve Sutton bought it from Byron (Byron Hicks was his uncle,For $20)in the early 70s. It was all rust, horseshoe nail frets and dry rot, but played. Steve gave it to me in 03 with all the above plus no keys or tailpiece and a busted cone, a wall hanger. I brought it back to life in 06. I rebuilt it but left the look intact. Got it strung but before playing it poured 2 ounces of really good shine into the body and let it evaporate. It sounds great. |
