That might be because many people here are kinda bitter about Fender as a company. Many have sworn that they will never buy a Fender product again. I do have a nice old Fender Strap... but "old" is the important word.

The people who make the guitars are not them. Now the only way we have to send a corporation a message is to not buy the new product who's sales determine their bonus. So that is a reason to avoid new stuff unless you really like it. And all the corporate guys who created "this" mess are gone anyway.

The top guy and probably those around him have been replaced several times since they shut the factory and sold everything off, at least that is my understanding. It's like trying to tell the CEO of Home Depot he's an asshole by buying nails and gutter pipes at Lowes. Doesn't work.

I told her the story about how Ovation was f'ed over by Fender and I didn't really feel good about giving them free advertising by wearing a t-shirt with their logo on it. After a bit of thought, I told her that I'd keep the t-shirt and use it for working on the car, around the yard, etc. You know, dirty work.

I have 2 fenders, a rebadged nylon Regal from the year one and a Japanese Strat from the 80's a girlfriend bought me new, I wore the T-shirt but I liked the 22 frets. It has actually appreciated with time. I never got into Fenders enough to spring for a American one. I'd like to get the Lead with 2 single coils from back then and one of these days I'll have to try a jazzmaster but doubt I'll get involved past a Squier. Still use my Twin.
