Just thought I'd share this.
It's 9pm Sunday evening, a warm and balmy 28degC.
I am sitting on my balcony glass of red in hand looking across the Brisbane river to a place called the River Stage, an outdoor concert venue.
The precedings were started by Christopher Cross and Aussie, Ross Wilson. Now the Beach Boys have just opened up. I was never a real fan but like some of their songs.
I am actually going there to see Crosby Stills and Nash in a few weeks.
Cheers All.

Wow, you're right in town then? Can you actually see the river stage from your balcony?

The River Stage, is that that auditorium thingy on the South Bank? I wouldn't have thought it big enough for that sort of concert?

Hope you enjoyed the evening.

Hi Muz, how's things?
The Riverstage is adjacent to the Botanic gardens.
Yes I'm just across the river.
Great to hear their old songs, looked like a big crowd judging by the traffic back across the Goodwill bridge.

Having been a teenager in Southern California near the beach (Huntington, Newport, Bolsa Chica, Balboa, the "Wedge") in the 60's, I was right in the middle of the surf craze. The early Beach Boys were huge. So were dozens of other surf groups. I wish I was born ten years later and had learned to play guitar in the 70's instead of the 60's. I wouldn't be so fixated on the surf songs.

I like the beach boys, but change 'em either to a punk version ala the Ramones and surfing bird, or contryfie them. Simply try an acoustic arrangement of Do you wanna dance, or surfin' usa. Comes out pretty good.

It's all in what you grow up with. On the east coast we had the Beatles, about 5 years after you.

Having an older(7yrs) brother, I picked up a lot of my early musical influences through him.

Not long after the Sullivan show, there was a set of white pearl Ludwigs and a stereo (with detachable speakers) in our cellar (couldn't even call it a finished "basement").

Beatles, BeachBoys, Ventures, RollingStones, FourSeasons, Byrds, and the TiquanaBrass were "de rigueur" of the time . . .

Used t'sneak down & play his drums to his albums when he went to work at the AutoBody shop after school.

He got married at 19.
There went the drums . . . . .

And in 2007 even more amazing that the Stones are still alive! In particular Keith Richards

Hey Beal, who to you want me to keep "Down Under" The Beach Boys or CS&N? :D

I agree with you about who you grew up with.
It was the Beatles for me as well.

Have you seen what's left of these guys lately? Isn't about time we started calling them the beach men?

I've always considered Brian Wilson the Sound of the Beach Boys, not the existing tour group. That being said, The Beach Boy image held them back when they produced the most celebreted ablum of the 60's, Pet Sounds. Many of us here in the US couldn't take them as seriously, as creative muscians because of their surfer image.

I think it's just Mike Love now, with Bruce Johnston (aka the BallCap Boys). Just another cover band as far as I'm concerned.

Carl Wilson carried the band through some very creative phases while Brian was traipsing through la-la land. I don't think he got enough credit for the Beach Boys sound.

About a year or two ago, Al Jardine was marketing a song/CD for PT Cruiser owners.

When I saw it, I was tempted t'stuff a rag in my gas tank & light it . . .

They are a real good example of running out of road before running out of gas.

Aussie, you can send Criminal, Stills and Hash back. They weren't that bad, although they have pretty much lost it now I understand.

Jeanette's been working as a volunteer usher at the Community Theatre in nearby Morristown.

She was trying t'work the upcoming sold-out Crosby/Nash acoustic show, but being low-person on the pole, she got "edged-out".

She worked the New Philharmonic last week & enjoyed it.
Next one coming up is Joe Bonamassa & Sam Bush . . .
