Was really hoping to keep this in the family but,
it's now listed on eBay 2009 Ovation Adamas 2080

and also on Reverb.com 2009 Ovation Adamas 2080

I have had this OFC II production number #1 of 8 for a few years. This is the one that was built originally for Alpep, so it's really more than just #1 of 8, it's a piece of history for both the Ovation Fanclub and Ovation.

The price is reduced from the previous listing so now is your chance.

As I'm mainly an electric player, this guitar rarely gets played and is in mint condition, and I don't use that term lightly.  As co-founder of the FanClub, and Alpep having #1 of the OFC-I run, it seemed only proper I have #1 of the OFCII.  But it's time to get it to someone who will play it and appreciate it.

Besides, I'm lusting after the new Adamas 2080 made for the anniversary and I don't need two.

This is a once in a lifetime chance to own this Guitar.

Specificaitons:

  • Adamas 2080
  • Hand Laid Fiberglass Contour Bowl and Tone Ring
  • OP-PRO preamp w/ db boost button
(Henceforth known as the Alpep boost, as this has never been done in any other guitar than the Al D model)
  • Black binding
  • Black textured bowl
  • Blackburst finish
  • Black gloss maple neck
  • 1 11/16"
  • Set neck similar to 08 collector's
  • Ebony fingerboard
  • xlr and 1/4" outputs
  • Open back Sperzel tuners brushed nickel
  • black nut
  • black saddle
  • Numbered 1/8
  • Custom Order Certificate
  • Special label signed by CWKII and Alpep
  • OFC II Certificate signed by CWKII and Alpep

Only 8 of these guitars were made like this.

I will entertain reasonable offers.

I had the boost button included in my custom 1187 SSB and although it only adds a few decibles of boost, it is quite noticeable and effective for acoustic leads on stage over the general band mix. In my humble opinion, this is a unique feature that doesn't receive the credit it deserves.

The boost button is an awesome feature. It gets used on my Al DiMeola all the time.

I love these OFC2s. There's nothing quite like them anywhere else, and that includes the new 50s. I'm actually surprised Miles is letting this go.

Good luck with the sale.

Marketing spew ... it's not a boost button at all. It's an "anti-boost" button. In the "off" position the button mutes the output by a few dB. In the "on" position the button is bypassed and the output of the guitar is "normal"/ To the user it appears that "Golly gee every dang time i press 'dis here boost button the volume gits louder." Well, yes it does.

Regardless of whether you look at it as a boost or anti-boost button, the fact remains that it works wonderfully to do what it is advertised to do. When it is time for your lead, you hit the button and the volume is increased by just the right amount. Kind of like Kieth tuners on a banjo - sure, you can change the pitch of the string using the regular tuner, but odds are you will over or undershoot. With the Kieth tuners, just as with the boost button, the change is quicker, and always perfect.

For me it's the perfect compensation to use between strumming and finger picking.

Agree, this is a nice feature. Not sure why Ovation didn't market it more heavily or on more models. Ideally it should operate via a bluetooth footswitch.

well the boost/anti boost button.....there is a story behind that....

I was doing gigs where the guy was on the soundboard and every time I would lay into something he would pull down the faders because apparently he did not understand the concept of dynamics

so
when i had these guitars built I added the boost so that I could play these gigs and always crank it up when he hit the faders.....

he had no clue

lol

I know we all kidded around about the 'spoo' button. When Miles points out it's an ideal compensation between strumming and finger picking that sounds like a very useful feature. I find myself stumbling with volume switching between strumming and finger picking...

I don't see how it's marketing spew at all. If you want to sell something to someone, especially when it's not a common feature, the best you can do is give it a name that explains what it does in the most simple terms possible. I'm a "results" kinda guy. Press the button = get louder = Boost Button.

Maybe calling it Boost/Anti-Boost would start a conversation of "what's that?".... but again... for most players... that conversation will end with.. "so when I press it, it gets louder?"

In fact, I believe this button is actually the epitome of RESISTING marketing spew, because it's NOT just a resistor on the volume control. It's actually an attenuation accomplished within the pre-amp circuit so it has no affect on Volume. I'm sure a clever marking guy could turn that into at least a paragraph...

Button line... this guitar has a boost button.

Hey Miles, sorry rereading my posts I was not trying to diminish the "button" at all. I think it's cool has heck and wish more models had this feature. My day job is sales and marketing, so I'm very keen on spew (hey, I get paid to sell spew) and Attenuation and Boost while they might be adjacent in the alphabet and definitely on different pages in the dictionary. None the less, very cool feature of the OFC II guitar and just another damn good reason why this is such a stunning guitar.

Note to self - no reason to reply to a "for sale" posting unless you plan to make an offer.

Actually Standingovation it gave us the opportunity to explain this feature. As with many Ovation innovations, they generally don't get much press.

I was really hoping someone would ask why this 2080 is different from any other and why this guitar and it's 7 brothers and sisters are so unique and will likely never be made again. I'm glad you asked......

People tend to gloss over the "Hand Laid Contour Bowl" as a mistake or something when they see it's a cutaway, and frankly I had to go look up what the "Adamas Tone Ring." And it has the access hatch.

This guitar is just amazing and I'd really like to see it stay in the Ovation FanClub family.

Probably more accurately called a suspension ring.  Al ?

This thread covers it to some extent, but simply put, the early Adamas had a very thin platform that was molded as part of the fiberglass as best I can tell.  It's what the top sat on and it really let the top ring out because it was so thin.

If someone has more knowledge, please jump in.   I'm still amazed that every so often, after all these years,  there's something new to learn about Ovations.

OK, I know it as the suspension ring. So OFC2 has that? Unlike the original 2080?

Correct, because the original 2080 has a standard contour bowl, not a hand laid fiberglass one.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, but as Stephent28 mentions the CF Case was for the OFC1. This guitar does come with a standard case.

stephenT

THE OFC1 came with the carbon fiber case.  The OFC2 came with the standard case.

But for those lucky enough to own both models, a switch in cases seems perfectly natural.

AJ has a NAMM special 2080 which is gloss all over AND has the carbon fibre case. That's a combination!

I put the NAMM guitar in the CF case to sell it to AJ that way. Seemed like a natural match.

I've got one already.
But if I didn't, and I knew how cool this guitar was and how great it sounded, I would be figuing out a way to get it.
Mine has been played out a lot and never failed to excite the crowd, both sonically and visually.
I was at 6 String Ranch in late Fall and there was one there being played by a number of killer guitarists during the porch concert. There were plenty of guitars to choose from, but that one was used almost exclusively, and for a reason.
These guitars are so good, Ovation is making a 50th Anniversary edition ... although in much higher quantities and a different color.
