That's a beautiful guitar, Jim. I love brown bowls. Too bad I'm not in the market right now (aka no cash).

How about $1300 shipped for a great, no issues 1537?

I acquired a Mothership refurbed 1537 a couple of years ago and can attest that it is essentially a brand new guitar, but with an aged color to the top and great aged sound. People can't believe it is over 30 years old, they think it is brand new by appearance. And I get a lot of comments on the guitar, every single time I play out, which is nearly weekly now. There's no comparison on the quality of the sound, this is one of the very best guitars O/A ever built.

The stereo FET preamp is excellent, can be run mono as usual or stereo. I run stereo with each channel balance set slightly off center, the knobs on the mixer at 10 and 2 o'clock. It makes the guitar sound 3D and fills the space.

The acoustic and plugged in sound of the 1537 is just beautiful.

Best of luck with your sale! I paid in the same ballpark for my guitar, not including shipping, and have been more than thrilled. Whoever ends up with this guitar is going to have many happy hours making music.

Back in 2002-2003 I was the first to start talking about the 1537's. Beal agreed and over the years, a lot of members have purchased and owned them. There is a strong consensus that they are some of the finest guitars ever built by Ovation.....

It was my first really good Ovation, creating a sense that I had arrived, but also a sense that I had better start playing a lot more so I could justify owning such a fine instrument.

I wouldn't sell mine for $1300 even. Kinda silly nobody's stepped up yet.

Thanks, everyone. It's a buyers market for all gear right now regardless of what the news says about the economy. Luckily I'm just thinning the herd and in no real hurry. With enough time, the right buyer has been coming along when I list nicer or more unusual stuff. $1300 is definitely the bottom line on this one, though.

I got mine done by the mothership with a new FET preamp, they did an excellent job. +1 moddy pi.
I tune also in open G and the sound is really nice and always stays in tune. Nowdays having ovation to make one I imagine it should be way higher for what is offered here. Good luck to the buyer and the seller.

A late congratulations on the sale. The 1537 is the LAST guitar that I'd ever part with.
