Hey... Is Templeton still around and doing the nice tuner buttons?
Those were some of the nicest looking mods I was able to do for the price.
I'm still looking for some cobalt blue ones for my Blue Jean Guitar.(1581-8)
The ambers look fantastic on my 1537.

I got the White MoP in Rosewood ones from CrazyParts in Germany also, at a great price, and they are very, very nicely made!

I would love to see some of Paul Templeton's though, I have heard so much about his fantastic woodwork on tuners and TRC's!!

It probably won't work, but here is a picture of the walnut tuners when new. A touch of beeswax and they blended in perfectly with the guitar.

I like those MOP on ebony ones. I'm trying to find some that have a predominately blue color. The particular color I'm looking for would be something like the deep blue on cobalt blue glass. I haven't seen anything like that yet, but perhaps I can find someone to custom fabricate some. These MOP on ebony seem to be possible of a predominate blue color as an alternative.

Vince, you might want to talk to DetlefMichel, he redid some tuners for his '82 Collector to blue, perhaps he could tell you how he did them? He is Incredible with figuring out how to make something Unique and Special!!

I took Schaller white pearl plastic buttons and put them for some minutes in a (suspicious looking) cold-coloring solution. It made the buttons blue-ish but I don´t think that it will make a real intense color. We used this colorings back in the 80´s for plastic eyeglasses frames.

DetlefMichel, what are your thoughts on using Fingernail Polish, and the Hardener???

They make fingernail polish in EVERY imaginable color, and now days, they are made to be rock hard, and last, plus, they have the dryer, or hardener that is supposed to set them until removed.

Would this be a way to get custom coloring without having them fabricated??? Just a thought???

Some people may be able to apply a coating like that so that it looks really clean, but I won´t. From my experience all coatings look like more or less self-made trial-and-error (with the emphasis of error). The advantage of the coloring I used was that the colorant is percolating through the first layers of the material and does not change the overall look of it. But-why not try, you can buy quite cheap plastic tuner buttons from Schaller and work with them.
The finest tuner buttons are the engraved ones that I saw on some Martin guitars. I am thinking about using my carving experiences for some carved ebony buttons one day...
I must say that the best feel of tuner buttons is wood. On most of my guitars I replaced the metal buttons with them, depending on the colour of the guitar(most of the time ebony will match an ebony fretboard), you can easily buy so many variations, why making a laquer mess out of your kitchen;-)? And pale woods may look phantastic when you use colored wood stain!
By the way, I once tried to make a case blue (for my ´82 collector´s) with no impressive results, see above.

The idea of taking some used buttons and staining them a different color sounds like a really good idea.

Hey Alpep!

Do you carry the MOP and ebony ones that were mentioned earlier in this post.
