Collings Mandolins are the cream of the cream and the MF-5 is the flagship model. Yes these are wildly expensive amd can make Collings guitars look like bargins, but it is what it is and if you desire the very best of the best this is it. There is NO WAY on this earth I need such an instrument sitting idle in my house so I put it out there for your consideration.
I will double check but I think this was built in 2005 and has a tone and volume unmatched by any mere mortal mandolin. Four issues to be aware of ...
1) there is a small ding along the edge at the top which does not show in photos. I actully don't think it is a ding, it's in the finish. I can try to take better photos but it is hard to see
2) there is some fret wear but nothing serious and fully usable for a long time to come
3) there is some discoloration of the bridge, kind of gold, but sorta chrome. I would notc all it tarnish, just wear
4) somehow I lost the Collings case so I have it in a nice Weber hardshell case (actually better then the Collings case)
Price is $4250. shipped within the US. Before you pucker at that you might want to poke around the internet a bit. This mandolin brand new is $7200 retail.

Location: Cicero, NY | That is stunning but you would expect no less from Collings, would you? +1 on the good luck wish, Dave, but you shouldn't need it. I went out and took a look at some prices (as you suggested but please don't tell SWMBO that I'm following directions now) and that seems to be almost HALF of what they're going for. I just wish I knew what to do with one... |

Beautiful, but how do you lose a case?
House painters or landscapers stole it. I'd call the police! |

Location: Phoenix AZ | The collings case was non-descript. I sold my Weber mando (also a darn nice one) and I must have sold it in the Collings case. Now I have the Weber case which is perfectly nice but has a rather large Weber logo right across the front of it. Oh well. |
