Location: Caribou, ME | I was handed a '69 1111 (s/n C-865) with a broken heel, lifting bridge, and a massive open top crack. The heel is healing nicely as it was a clean break, so it was just titebond, a can of air to ensure penetration, and my typical Rube Goldberg clamping methods. It drew back together very nicely and I suspect it will pass as a finish crack when done. I haven't put any thought into the lifting bridge. Since it's bolted on anyway, maybe it won't fight me too much when I remove it. I can't say with absolute certainty that nobody has shot elmers glue under it so it's cleanup time.
The top crack is awful. I can never seem to draw Ovation top cracks back together well.
I'll post some before and after pics of the broken neck if anyone is interested. |

Location: Caribou, ME | I repaired the neck (easy clean break), cleated the top crack as best as I could (doesn't look horrible but it's an old scar that should have been fixed long ago...). The bridge is tight except for one little spot under the a&d strings, can't really see where it's a problem other than cosmetic.
It's by no means a collector's item, nor is it the nicest sounding O I've ever owned (the 1112 I sold to Old man Arthur probably takes that title) but I had to have it, partly pity, partly "Oh cool, this was made the same time I was watching John and Glen Wednesday night at 8", partly it's got a skinny little neck, partly because it plays and sounds good and has no irritating traits, plus I bought it with a newer TKL HSC for $200. So add all those up and this O is "home". |
