Watched this movie again... just the second time... This is a Great Film.
I've heard it enough- "It's not Scorsese's best...blah, blah, blah..."

Well, it may not be his best, but it's a helluva good movie. I enjoyed as much or more the second time.

The ending is friggin' brilliant.

I watched it last night on HBO. Fantastic film. The ending was riveting and emotional.

Jack Nicholson does rule, however, Robert DeNiro was Scorsese's first choice for the Frank Costello part. That would have made for a slightly different, but still great movie.

If you liked the Departed, then you gotta check out Infernal Affairs.

Jaws: sat through two showings. Goodfellas: rewound the tape and watched it again. The Departed: Reset the TIVO and watched it again.

That's my version of two thumbs up.

No fella's, not Internal Affairs, I really meant INFERNAl, as in HELL. Infernal Affairs is the movie Departed copied! Stars Andy Lau, who was in some of Wong Kai War's movies, like Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love and Fallen Angels and Days of Being Wild. Check 'em out on netflix.

I'm in the "not one of his very best" camp. Yes, it was entertaining. A best film Oscar?? Not really. Don't get me wrong, it's not as bad as when Denzel won one for the ridiculous Training Day, or not as bad as giving John Wayne, Jessica Tandy, or Geraldine Page awards for being old. Not as bad as giving Paul Newman an award for an average/mediocre performance, especially when he was GREAT (GREAT!!!) in at least 5 or 6 films.

Nicholson was outstanding, but DeNiro could have played the role and given a different, but excellent performance. The F words in the script were so scripted and forced. I guess Marty and the F-word are just getting a little tired. Overall, it's hard to go over the top when you've already been over the top in the same way several times. I see this as Marty's, maybe, 6th or 7th best film, which isn't bad if you look at his top 5! Still, I'd watch it again.
