I think these guys have some very cool music but I dont know what style of music you would call it.( Hip Hop ) ???
It sounds to me like a combination of Heavy Rock slams into Rap.
Either way it is one of the VERY FEW newer style bands that have a few songs that I really enjoy at my ripe age of 53.GWB

I don't think I've heard LP on the radio in the last five years. Then again, I don't listen to the radio much any longer. When I did hear them, they were on the Top 40 station, which I guess would make them Pop.

I'd rather listen to Rage Against the Machine or Perfect Circle than Linkin Park, though.

Rap metal.

I can't get these guys out of head, especially that guitar intro. Too bad, they are only a minor band in japan. they don't even register here.

Alternative. They have a very big following in certain circles. Every surburban 18 year old knows LP.

except that every 18-year-old that was around when LP was still "viable" is now 21 . . .

coheed and cambria - no world for tommorow
i've bought they cd just yesterday. One of the better albums i've heard in last couple of years.

One of my students burned me a CD of one of their albums years ago. I still have it, and I don't think that I ever made it through the entire album....

... not my cup o' tea.

I like "normal" singing, with "normal" guitar (solos included), in "normal" tuning.

Thank you very much!

Mmmmm, I wouldn't call them alternative. I have a hard time considering anything being pushed on commercial radio as "alternative," though, as my definition (which may be different than yours) of alternative implies that it's "not-big-label/commercial."

I would consider Chuck Prophet to be alternative, or maybe americana...folk-roots? Maybe some stuff just can't be classified into a neat little pigeon hole.

At any rate, LP just never really did much for me.

Crusty, ask Bobbo how he got his name sometime. Answers a lot of questions.

We call them "Stinkin Fart".

I agreed w/stonebobbo - Alternative, not everyone that is played on commercial radio is "main stream"

i think there is not much of a difference between LP and pop. Really.
Linkin Park uses a lot of EASY melodic lines, they're a product not a real band. look at their real 'live' concerts and then look at Britney's concerts. Similarity? yes. guys from Linkin Park and Britney CAN'T SING. And i haven't heard any of their perfrormorance when they sing in tune.
It's just a sh!t. It doesn't matter if it's a yellow sh!t or pink sh!t. It's still the same thing.
And in my opinion LP = Sh!t.

btw.
i've seen a drum solo from their drummer where he tried to play 5/4 rythm. It was totally funny. That guy tried so hard but he couldn't. it looked like some newbie sat and tried to play on drums, and someone recorded it.

Let me restate myself I like those two songs by Linkin Park and honestly those are the only two songs that I know that I like but I think it is an interesting style that is very catchy to me . No other new bands have gotten my attention much anymore but this one did.
You are some tough critics.

OK you people can blast on Linkin Park but I will put one more band ( SONG ) that I like and I would like to see what you think of this one and what style is this? GWB http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGmrL2h8lrE

Hey, Stonebobbo! How'd you get your name?

And, off-topic, I'm all of a sudden overcome by the urge to start shouting, "Hey, hey, LBJ...". WTF is up with that? Weird. :p

GWB:
I don't know how this kind of music is perceived in USA. Here, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Puddle of Mudd, Crazy Town etc. is being listened by 13-17 year olds which actually think they listen something not ordinary, that they're "metals" just because of it, and that those guys really can play.
I don't like them. They need studio musicans to record albums, and on concerts they can't perform their songs.
It's like Metallica. They're well known, and regarded as great bands, but if You'd look at this closer, you'd see that they still (after 20 years of performing) can't play (especially Lars Ulrich buahaha)
If You'd listen to metallica's S&M album... it's one big tragedy. There are mistakes in nearly every song. They play on different tempos. There is a lot of bad notes played etc.
I think those bands rose on pop-culture just because of their "alternative" image.

OK, I've waited long enough... It's Wigger-music.

Bunch of white-boys with a drum machine!
Gotta abit of political savvy, and a bunch of teen-aged angst.
[Which, since you are 28 years-old, you shoulda gotten over long ago!
But since kids live at home rent-free when they are thirty nowadays...]
Excuse me, yeah they may play some instruments on stage (over their backing tracks) but as soon as I hear them scratching records my brain turns-off!

Comb your hair! Quit buying pre-reliced jeans at Abercrombe and F^@%'s, and get a Real Job at Starbuck's! Where you can listen to that World Music crap all day long!
