As I was cleaning my office/Man's room for the impending arrival of my wife's family tommorrow, for Turkey Day, it dawned on me that the Monday before Thanksgiving (last year) I recieved my first New Ovation (1778LX) to go with my pawnshop 1867. Since then I have purchased a CL1658 (sold to Trader Jim), the U681T (UTE), a lovely Viper from Miles' collection, and the newest arrival, an Adamas 1685, quite a year! I have them all proudly displayed in my office.

So, what's the dilemma you ask?

Once SWMBO's family sees all the new guitars, how can I explain the magazine subscriptions that they got from me for Christmas and their birthdays? :o

Jim, I think the guitars will do all the explaining necessary.

I've had many people tell me I must be rich because I have a Porsche. I tell them I was rich until I bought a Porsche. Same would work for guitars, houses, whatever. I'm sure your family will appreciate your success.

Jim, just tell them you got them really cheap. I mean just look at them, they're half plastic!

DZ, now that's a reason that I can work with!!

Gway, your reasoning is sound, but ya know that people from (insert your in-laws location here) can't read.

Mark, the ol check book ain't what it used to be.

Thanks for your replys, it's still cheaper than the motorcycle I used to have and you can certainly say something for the variety.

I like DZ's. Two of them hardly even have any wood in them and one of those doesn't even have a full size neck. Toy guitars. Wall decorations. Found them on the internet.

My father-in-law is one of those guys who has to make a comment whenever my wife and I buy anything. He likes to say "it must be nice to be rich" (which we are not). It's just that he lives like a pauper (by choice) and expects everyone else to do the same. The way I see it, you only live once, so you might as well enjoy yourself. When you ask other people to foot the bill, they can comment about it. Until then, they should just mind their business.

Just as a side note: I take great pleasure in telling my father in law what things cost so I can see him break out in a sweat!
