Location: south east Michigan | I've always had a truss rod phobia.
I've never had to adjust the '71 Balladeer. Ever.
Never had to touch the AD-II.
But the UTE seems to like attention. A change of string gauge usually comes with the need of a tweek. I've always been afraid I'm gonna bust something or adjust things so far out of whack I wouldn't be able to bring it back.
I just changed from lights(.10) to Martin SP light/mediums (.0125). Without a truss rod tweek the action was in Estaban territory. So off comes the cover and out comes the big wrench. I repeated this mantra over & over to get me through it.... Kim & John can fix anything..... The mothership's got my back.... Kim & John can fix anything...
And.... IT WORKED!!! |

What were the four things a man has to do in his life?
Build a house, plant a tree, become a father and... adjust the truss rod on his guitar!
Well done!

Location: south east Michigan | Kurt.. I'm working on the tree thing!
I've always used strings that have the word "light" on the box. I'm just set in my ways. Chevy trucks... Ovation guitars... Lee jeans... Salomon skis... I have my little comfort zone and I'm happy.
Well, now I think I have discovered that there is a place in my life for medium strings. In fact it seems to me that the UTE was designed to be strung with something other than lights.
(BrianT is gonna read this and flip. He has been telling me this for years.) |

Built a house. Still paying for that.
Planted 45 trees in the yard. Raking leaves.
The truss rod sounds like a piece of cake. |
