I just took posession of an old Balladeer 12 that came with the original case (Lifton, I think?). Some of the edges of the faux alligator skin covering are peeling back a bit, and I want to glue them back down to keep it all intact. Any suggestions?

I would use any good quality contact cement, the stuff that smells to high heaven.

In a small bottle. Once you open it, it starts thickening & congealing. Have the lacquer thinner handy, too. It sticks to EVERYTHING, and leaves little strands in the most inconvenient places.

Nice to have the original case as well...

So..... Does that 12 look as good as the pictures did? and how does it sound?

hope it was worth the heads up... looked like a keeper..

my shiny 12 and the 1537 are sitting on the loading/receiving dock at the mothership...waiting for assessment and repairs, I guess I'll see them coming back sometime round my birthday, after Holiday breaks.

Use an impact adhesive. Is that Brit for contact cement?

Thanks, all. PT, I had to look up impact adhesive ... yes, it seems as if it is contact cement. I'll give it a try.

Glenn, the guitar is as good (even better) as the pictures. Aside from a few marks on the back in the buckle rash area, minor scuffing on the top of the headstock, and one small ding on the soundboard, it is near flawless, though the soundboard is sunken a little. I've heard people refer to the sound of these as "harpsichord" and now I know why. The action is a bit high up the neck, but there is a ton of saddle so I think it can come down without having to do any sort of repair. I think I'm going to send it back to the mothership to have them give it the once over and get it set up correctly. I think this one is collectable in every sense of the word, but it will get played. Probably lots.
