It has a repaired top-crack nearby the armrest and an old finish crack which was probably caused by some misconstructions under the neck. I found it out when I made a neck-reset. Now there is no more stress on this point.
But besides that it´s a wonderful guitar, huge sound and dynamics maybe because I decided to make the neck angle a wee bit more than the original. Makes more pressure on the bridge and leaves little more space for playing with a pick without scratching the top.
It´s a shame to give the guitar away but I fell in love with a Nakao Elite and I just want/need a cutaway guitar.
Maybe somone here may give this guitar a new loving home.
I have no idea what this may be worth, let´s say 900.-USD? Just a suggestion.

I´ll get the Nakao Elite Sunburst ! tomorrow, incredible, it´s 100 km from here and horribly expensive, but you won´t find them so often. But I´ll surely be a little sad if the 1537 will be gone...by the way, what do you think, are 900 $ too much for the guitar? The money is not the most important for me, the guitar shall come in good hands.
And did you realize that I FINALLY after years of desparation and wrath succeeded in bringing up PICTURES here? (Without Old Man Arthur noone would ever have seen anything from me before). But today it felt like an "inside Oktoberfest".

I think it is a GREAT Price! It is spotlessly clean, in great shape (I can't see the cracks you mentioned, so they are not showing much if at all!), and it looks like you put Ebony Tuning Knobs on it? Looks Fabulous!! And I have seen Natural 1537's on ebay going for $1300 that are not near so clean and pristine as yours! I know how well you treat your Guitars, my Flag looks like it just rolled off the line!!!

Now that you know how to post pictures, I am *sure* that you will post pics of the new Nakao as soon as you get it??? I love my center hole, but those Elites are stunning!!

Well you got the purists and the players.
The arm rest and cracks ruin the value for the purists.
The players won't care and the mods won't matter.
Good price for a players guitar is good condition.
Good luck!

Detlef, I saw the Nakao too... fantastic instrument, and in Germany! I am in Cologne, but it was too expensive and my wife did not like the dark sunburst... I was wondering whether one of the German guys here would grab it.... And was surprised yesterday evening when it was gone. Superb!

I am looking for a 1768 in sb, but we may talk about the 1537....

will send an PM.

Georg

I have to admit that armrests are ugly.
If you listen to a guitar with or without your right arm touching the top you will understand the sense of an armrest. The value of the guitar is not touched because is just fixed with some adhesive tape. Most of high-end guitars are built with armrests, and my luthier makes them by hand out of light woods exactly matching the shape of the guitar. But this is only interesting when you play mostly acoustic.

Detlef, stunning guitar!! I have "only" a natural one and it would not go anywhere for less 1200€.
Guys, shipping from Germany is quite cheap, only about $60,00. Maybe the 1537 is heavier with case and cardbox than 10kg, because it's as heavy as a tank. But I've send a lot of Ovations for $60.
In my opinion this guitar for that price is a steal!!! If I already don't have one, this one would be mine!

This lovely guitar is headed for Ohio. I have to say it's been a wonderful experience working with Detlef in Germany. As it turns out, he is as detailed as the carving he added to the Bridge. Can't wait!

Thanks Nancy. It feels good to be 56 and still get so excited about something. Reminds me of Christmas Eve when I was little. This is the nicest looking 1537 I've ever seen and Detlef made it even nicer with a little custom detail work.

Detlef....what is the Nakao Elite? I've never heard of that model. Why is it called Nakao and what features make it special?

jim - Nakao was a large Ovation distributor in Japan. On occasion Nakao would spec out an exclusive design for their market and Ovation would build X number of units for distribution there. A few must have remained stateside as I see them pop up here and there for sale.

When I was subcontracting for Ovation, whenever some Nakao necks came through they would get some extra attention...the way I remember it Nakao was very demanding and Ovation did not want any guitars shipping all the way over there and then have a defect require them to be sent all the way back. Nakao Ovations are pretty rare and exceptionally nice O's.

Thanks Ovie. Truth is I don't really "need" this guitar because I have a deep body Adamas II that I love. But I was pulled in by the beauty of Detlef's 1537...wow! And now I can't wait to try it out. I always said I wouldn't be a collector. I've even made fun of collectors. "You've got 17 guitars" I ask my friend...."are you crazy?!?". And now, I've got 9 and feel like I cant' get rid of any! How'd that happen?

BTW...I grew up near Pittsburgh and am a big Steelers fan even today. Still go back to visit often.

It kinda just happens one at a time until one day you turn around and have more than you need or thought you would ever have. Me I have "only" 5 so I guess that's not too bad a case of GAS?? But every time I play one I feel bad the the four left unplayed!!

Yep. I think my poor wife has completely lost track...or given up. But I'm lucky she's so supportive. She knows I'm no rock star but still enjoys all the music in the house. It might sound crazy but I think playing guitar has improved our marriage. It's something I do that she really enjoys.
