Location: Huntington Beach | 1778t Elite USA. 2005 vintage. I've been looking for one for a while and last week this one turned up on ebay for a good price and near-mint condition. Except it was real dirty and way out of adjustment. Everything cleaned up and polished up nice. At first i thought I may have a problem because the neck was severly bowed and super high action. The truss rod nut was so loose that it turned about half a turn before it made contact and adjusted real smooth. I always take things apart and inspect. Found the fretboard extension bolt was loose. 4 shims were under the pickup. I took out one skinny and one fat tan - what is the difference between the tans and the whites - this had one fat white. The action is real low without buzz and this guitar sounds and plays great. I'd say its inspiring. The neck profile is an almost identical feel to the rounded V of my 1978 1617. The only defect I've found is the nut slot is too low on the G string - isn't there a quick fix for that? All you guys who have raved about this model are right - thank you!

Location: Germany | <p>Let a drop of second-glue into the G-Nut. Let it dry out. Then file it down with a nut file to the correct height. File carefully and step by step and check the height when pressing down string at the third fret - the string should have a little clearance to first fret that there is space like thickness of a sheet of paper between first fret and string (while pressing down the string at third fret). Good luck - it's not a big thing. If you don't have a nutfile - it's a thing for about five minutes for a good luthier to fix that :-)</p>

Location: Huntington Beach | Thanks Damon - didn't notice that. That's great. I made tapered shims out of rosewood years ago for my 1617. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Nancy, those full bodied flamers are pretty rare, but they do pop up now and then. I think there are three owners here at the OFC, me being one of them. The T-flamers have a unique voice and I don't know if it is like the satin black Elites or different. Of all the acoustics I own, my wife picked the sound of the red flamer as her favorite in a blind sound/tone test. I remember hearing Bobo play Phil's at an OFC pre-factory tour party and I was blown away by its sound. I made up my mind then and there to find my own, which I did a few years later. I had it shipped to Seattle for a PNW OFC gathering, then carried it home to Denver tied to the back of a motorcycle. |
