I've purchased 2 new Ovations in the past couple of years and have had trouble with the pre-amps on both of them. The latest is my Adamas 2080 with the VIP pre-amp. This unit has been replaced already and once again is cutting out at gigs, making loud static sounds etc. Mind you, I am a person who takes very good care of things, so these instruments are not abused, neglected etc. When this happened with my Legend LX. It had to be re-wired.

I'm really getting to the point that I want to just get rid of the damn thing.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

I have. Not with LXs, though, but with a 1597. When it happens and you are not in USA you are without customer suppport. So in my case I am kind of stuck with it.

They have had problems with the VIP, but every case I've heard any details on the real culprit has been the XLR PCB. Do both of yours have the XLR output?

I've had no end of troubles with my OP-PRO in the ADII 1769 Custom Legend. Mr. Budny replaced it twice. I find that the latest retrofit--the STUDIO is better sounding but generates a nasty noise in my guitar. Now the battery light in on perpetually. Same thing happened to Jeff Burns with his 1769. I really don't know what to say.

I think I'm going to drop one of the OP-Pro's (from one of my Legend LX's) into the Adamas and see if the problems continue. If it does, then I know it's a wiring issue and luckily, there is a local shop who does excellent work who can re-wire it. Of course, that's not cheap, but I don't have much choice because without working electronics, the guitar is useless to me.

I have an issue with the XLR on my UTE. Everytime i use it, the pre-amp shuts down after 20 secs of use. If i hit the eq button, it works for another 20 secs than shuts down again.....

I will try to swap the OP-Pro from my 1778LX to see what's up with that...anyone got any advice ?

Thanks,
Yves

Am I the only one who thinks the OP40/50 were the best of the best? The tuners are easier to use as well IMHO.
Next custom order I'm going to ask for an OP50.

If you weren't so damn tall you'd be close enough to read the thing.

Maybe Paul just needs a shorter strap?

I was starting with the "easiest".

Or "least psychological", you choose.

Just an update. Although my guitar is not covered under warranty as it was a demo model, Kim Keller worked out a very fair deal with me to replace my pre-amp. Hopefully this will be the end of the problem. Ovation's customer service really is second to none.
