This is not a slap at the off-shore produced models. They are made to a different price point. You said right out that you want tone & quality. A good used USA model with give you that plus something even more important to a beginner... playability! Rock on.

I saw your post in the Welcome Center inquiring about 12 string ME models. Those are great, but 12 strings are a bit harder to learn on and might limit the songs you could play. I'd try to find a used Ovation Balladeer, unless you are secure enough about your abilities and finances to go up to a Legend, Custom Legend or Elite. If you really want to take the plunge, go for an Adamas. I've always recommended for any beginner to at least get a guitar with a solid top, generally spruce, rather than a laminated (plywood) top. Check the For Sale section of this site to see if there are any used deep bowl Ovations still for sale or Al Pepiak, one of our founders, has a site for Lost Art Vintage and he sells Ovations and others brands.

The folks here will give you great advice but you're already getting there by leaning towards a deep bowl to get you the best tone. Check with Al first as he can almost certainly help you out but if he's got nothing for you, let us know what you're thinking in terms of budget and maybe one of the members has something that can fit the bill for you. Good luck with the search and the learning. A little work can give you a lifetime of enjoyment.

They have a mid-depth bowl but are rich and loud and have incredible bass, yet are well balanced as far as sound. Other than an Adamas I think they are the best sounding Ovations ever made. And the price is right too.

The only down-side was I had to leave her store so soon and was unable to stick around for the open mike at the local establishment.

I don't know what your budget is but I'd look for a 80's Legend 1617/1717,there A braced which gives you real balanced tone, deep bowl for projection and they've been made for years so there's lots of them on the used market

Apparently the ebay-usps interface limits the box size. Oh well ... How do you know it's a real T with ebony fingerboard etc?

Cuz I am smart! ![]() It has a Truss Rod Cover... TX's don't. It does not have little dots on the bridge... TX's do. The view of the neck heel shows that it isn't a 3-piece Celebrity-cheap neck. (it is a 2-piece T neck) Look close and you can see the serial number and "USA" on the back of the headstock. Look in the sound holes and you can see the Factory on the label. And I am always looking for mislabeled TX's.
