| Hi there, I am looking to start learning guitar and love the sound of the 12 string MEii signature guitar. Does anyone know anything about learning on a 12 string. I have some musical knowledge and have played classical guitar when I was very young at school. If there was a guitar that looked and sounded the same as the above guitar I would still be interested. I do love the deep contoured bodies for the sound. Would anyone be able to advise on a model in the UK, or any advice with learning on an Ovation. They are beautiful guitars!
Thanks for the add, can't wait to meet you all! |

Location: Pueblo West, CO | I learned to play guitar on a 12-string. Learned fingerstyle, even.
Other than the wider neck, having to press two strings down at once and the higher finger pressure needed, it's pretty much just playing a guitar.
As long as the 12-string guitar has a good set up and light strings, you shouldn't have too much trouble learning on it.
I took a guitar class in college and the instructor walked around and tuned everyone's guitar but mine.
I would also suggest tuning down a full-step (D-tuning) instead of full concert tuning (E-tuning) as the higher tension of 12 strings will be harder to play and will warp the sound board faster. |
