Most of us take a jury duty summons seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty that a new and ominous kind of scam has surfaced.
A caller claims to be a jury coordinator asking why you didn't respond to a summons for jury duty. If you protest that you never received the summons, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity just got stolen.
The scam has been reported so far in 11 states. This scam is particularly insidious because the callers use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they're with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their websites, warning consumers about the fraud.

Location: Marlton, NJ | I would have to rely on good old caller ID for that one. If it's "Unknown"/"Private" or some weird area code, we just don't answer it.
Although.. I believe that the Do Not Call list has expired and we're getting a hell of a lot more calls now then in the recent past. |

I can't remember who, but one of our members recently (within the last year I think) fell for the old "I sent you too much money scam so please send me some of it back" and lost a ton of money....so it can happen to anyone.
and unfortunately...a large portion of the people that ultimately get scammed don't have caller ID cause they don't want to pay for it. |

I called his office today and told them that I was already with their program and to stop calling me or else I'd change my vote to Hillary. Supposedly the problem is now fixed, we'll see. I really would vote for anyone but her but I really hate those phone calls..... |
