I'm working out specs on an Adamas for a 50th birthday present to myself.

One thing that came to mind is I love the look of spalted maple and would love to marry it with a woven carbon fiber top. To be more specific. I'm thinking of a very thin veneer of figured spalted maple sitting on top of the top. The maple is only for cosmetics.

As I recall the carbon fiber tops on the W597 are around 1/32" (0.30") thick so a veneer of spalted maple should be as thin as possible to not affect the tone too much. If spalted maple won't work I can also go with quilted maple.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing?

On an Adamas the Epaulets are actually thicker than the top.
They are place in the upper bout where the sound vibration is minimal and will not get in the way.
Adding that mass in a full veneer would dampen the sound and you would have lamination and lifting issues in abundance.

I would keep carbon top and wood top separate.

I agree with what's been posted above, but I like the way you think though.

My only Adamas has a solid wood top snitched off the old Hamer wood rack and repurposed to perfection!

I saw your guitar Patch and that's what made me think of doing something like this. I could get a wood top Adamas but I love the stability and durability of carbon fiber.

The more I think about it though. I would love a nice piece of quilt like yours with a trans orange finish. I lived in New Hampshire for the first 30 years of my life so I'm try to capture the essence of New England in fall on a guitar. I could do it with carbon fiber in the right color (transparent orange) or some kind of warm burst (red to orange).

Or... You could just get an Ovation, or a Wood Topped Adamas.
Attaching a wood veneer to a Carbon Fiber Laminate top would defeat the whole purpose of the Adamas top.

As to getting an Orange Adamas... I think that they would paint it any color you like.

In 12 months time (or so) there's going to be a flood of custom Adamii pictures on this forum, as several years of pent-up GAS gets unleashed.

I'm looking forward to the pictures.

That sounds Beautiful Matt B! Really Beautiful!
Patch, you are the Master Designer with mixing and matching tops on Guitars, yet another Gorgeous Custom!
Arthur, the epaulets on that Orange Adams are Gorgeous! I have never seen ones like that! Gorgeous!
Tafkar, I am with you! I can't wait to see what everyone gets created!
Very Exciting times!

Those epis were hand painted by an artist the owner knows.

I've seen a bunch of orange cars on the road lately too. I don't get it.

Obviously, orange is the new black.

The eppies are interesting though. I'd have to see a closer look.

Orange is my favorite color. Always has been so it's not new for me. I've wanted an orange Adamas for a few years now.
