Nice. The one I recently got is just a bit earlier ... the bridge is a little work of art in itself. It'll be really interesting to see it after it gets back from it's spa treatment (I hesitate to use the phrase "plastic surgery" ).

Glad you got that one, Mike. It seems like a worthwhile project.

Thanks all: bobbo, I was thinking of yours...and you're right: the bridge looks really nice in the photo...I have wanted one of these for a long time: I know where one is thats very nice but it is over $1200; this one even with a spa treatment is much less. I plan to take the tuner from the 69 I have: its not playable anyway so I'll do a swap! I have an original case from the 69 as well that I'm shipping to the seller to ship it back to me with the guitar. I'll take pic's and update when it arrives so I can do a good before and after! I'm excited! I mentioned that I was workong on several things: this was one but the big news is coming in several weeks! And no, it has nothing to do with insurance...
:D ;)

Mike, I'm sure you will really like yours once it's done. I was really lucky to stumble across the one I got ... and I am sending it into CT for a little pampering too. Moody pointed me at one like ours at a music store on Staten Island ... they want $1500 and it looks to have a new bridge on it and a non-original case.

Also remember that the original cases were by Victoria Luggage and had black tolex covering and blue or yellow plush inside: I also have a late 60's/early 70's brown thermoplastic "rounded" case w/purple plush: its the earliest brown case I've seen: I have the 69 in it right now. My original case (which I'll keep the "new" 68 in) has the blue plush.

Mike, the ones with the orange (yellow) lining were made by LIFTON. There's a metal tag inside on the storage compartment with the name and logo. The blue lined ones had no logo, so I guess those were the Victoria, but this is the first I've heard a name associated with them. Thanks for that info.

Dave, I have a 1977 Victoria case w/inside tag/label and orange/yellow plush: I'll try to take a picture of it: they made the cases for Fender's acoustic's as well ans Martin and several others in the mid-late 60's. When I get a minute, I'll take a picture of the case tag!

1977? We're thinking of different cases. The blue one that I have is similar to the Lifton, but with slightly different arch, different stitching, and different foot buttons. The blue is a 4 latch case and the Lifton is a 3 latch. Someone told me the 4 latch blue was made by Gieb, but there is no label on it. Dave

I'm going to have to figure out what case I got with my 1968 Balladeer 12. It is slightly arched both top and bottom, and has sort of green plush inside, although the back of the bowl has worn the inside to nearly yellow. When I get back home in a couple of days I'll have to look for a label. I was told it was the original case that came with the guitar so I assumed it was a Lifton, and based on the pictures I showed a knowledgable member he said it was a Lifton, but now I'm not sure. But it does have three latches, the center one being the "tongue in plate" style with a lock.

1969 1115-1 w/original case (note latches; tolex and handle):

1966/67 Victoria Luggage Co. Case (notice handle, latches and tolex: yeah you'll have to look a bit harder but its all there)

tag:

Cases share a lot of same features and construction: But they are different sized cases and there are some differences as well...FYI

Blue case looks identical to mine. Orange one seems to have a slightly different texture fur than tha Lifton case. Dave

Dave,
I think you're right here: there unfortunatly is no label in the blue case, but there are just enough differences to question. Still, pretty cool early cases.
