| I have an Ovation Matrix that I've been able to get into fairly decent playable condition. I'd like to repaint the aluminum finger board but I'm not sure what kind of paint to use and if any special aluminum primer is necessary.
Also, how should I protect the integral frets from the paint? |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | I used an aluminum primer, then the color coat, then re-leveled the frets. Worked out okay, really. |

| What type of paint did you use for the color coat?
Did you remove all the old paint before re-painting? |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Yep, stripped it bare. As I recall, I shot a couple of coats of black lacquer over the primer. You really want that primer to "bite" the aluminum fretboard, and let the color coat cure at least a week, to harden up, optimally. Careful when you polish the tops of the frets, too. Long straight-edge is in order, here. |
