Would someone please help me identify this Ovation? I know I have seen one similar but ...

Getting old is not for sissies.

Well heck - I cannot figure this picture posting out. Anyway, the guitar is a dark reddish brown color (not like nutmeg) and has what looks like inlaid stylized even-armed crosses in the fretboard. I have no decent pictures really, but the serial number dates to 1978. There was no label inside the sound hole but only what looks to be 2 small white rectangular labels that denote Ovation and, just below that, the serial number.

If you have some ideas, please share. This is from a local CL ad.

You need to post a link or a photo or something.

This one? http://fresno.craigslist.org/msg/5033524892.html

It's a Legend. and for $160 I would go look at it and buy it.

Yes! That's it! Your guys are damn geniuses (genii?). I'll call the guy back tomorrow. Looks like a road trip to Fresno is in my future. And it could be a good thing. Thank you.

Is that a hole through the top in the treble bout, or just a funky shadow?

The owner is not available until Monday afternoon now but said he could "take a ton of pictures" if I wanted. I would like to see more photos. Anything specific I should ask him to focus on (pun intended)? He said there were no real issues with the guitar, but that he is moving and is short on space and $. It's about 45 minutes away for me, and might be worth a short drive to see it in person, pictures or no. He didn't answer me as to whether or not it had a case and electronics.

Buy it. Flat out. If it needs some work, so be it. Send it to The MotherShip Workshop, if necessary. If you don't want it, ask the buyer if he will ship it to me, or another BFLG member. Seriously......

Yep. I wouldn't wait to buy it. The last time I found a deal this good was when a local guy was selling a 1624 for $100, which I bought the same day.

Got it home, safe and sound in Visalia. And you are right, it is an acoustic only. The picture looked like it had a hole on the lower treble bout, but in reality, it was the misguided expression of some Harley-Davidson aficianado with a penchant for vandalism (or marking territory, or something). I am not sure what I am going to do with this, other than play if for awhile now. It sounds great --- the seller just put on new Elixer strings (he said they were 10s), and I hear no fret buzz. I wonder if this might be a candidate for a trip home to mother, just to look at some of the top discoloration?
