Hi Guys!

Is there a place to get a clear acrylic template for an Ovation Top?
I want to have a custom built, and bought some incredible Maple, but I would like to be able to see where to have the body cut, and where the sound hole and bridge will go, as it is quite patterned, and I want to use the most of the colors and patterns.

I have found quite a few other types of guitars, but no Ovations...

Thank You in advance for any help!

I'm not aware of any clear templates for Ovations.

Unlike Martins, Ovations really haven't been imitated/copied, so there's not many third party suppliers for stuff like this.

Your best bet is to do what I did for my 1619 and trace the body shape onto a piece of cardboard, then take measurements off an existing guitar for sound hole and bridge location.

And, you could probably go the local Home Depot, and get a piece of clear acrylic, and make your own template.

Uh oh, Nancy...it sounds like your slowly stepping into the abyss within the abyss. The BFLG! Watch enough of DanSavage, MWoody, and/or seesquare's BFLG threads and you will never be the same! Good luck with the Maple sound board project!

Thank You!!

You are right Arumako! If I can't find what I want, I don't give up! And Everyone on here is SO good about sharing their knowledge and experience. Not to mention answering questions very patiently, and throughly!

The more I learn, the more I want to know, and then I want something just a bit different. This is the most Wonderful Group!

I've always done things my own way, too.

After I finish Jay's 1967 Balladeer, I've got a 1978 1617 Legend I'm going to rebuild using torrefied red spruce top wood and my custom forward X-brace pattern that I used on my 1976 1619 CL.
